Re: Top Shots
Maybe that's part of it too, that its not a physical collection. If I want to collect baseball cards and Topps goes out of business, I still have my cards. The market risk is devaluation, not complete disappearance.

Re: Top Shots
I've made myself comfortable that people *might* want to collect Top Shots and so I've stopped asking myself why. This is what I can't do, because you can construct a fake market for literally anything if you want. Like BreweryFans or something where you bid to be a fan of specific breweries and th...

Re: People in your home who make you uncomfortable
What's the thing where everyone puts money into a pot, and the last one alive takes it? Like the thing Woodhouse was in with his WWI buddies. We should do that. "Hi, I'm The Sybian from a website your husband was on. I'm very sorry for your loss, but I think there's $1,500 in your house that belong...

I’m looking this up now and can’t find anything so I don’t know if I’ve completely made a massive rift up or if it was local and not widely reported.

Oh boy ... another local/personal angle on this one so I’d say maybe don’t learn more about Floyd Patterson.
(I don’t know how accurate this memory is, but I remember Tracy fighting on actual TV during a massive blizzard and it being the biggest local sporting event since Rik Smits.)

I’ll try to “rebound” (goalie term) the conversation here and say a friend of a friend’s dad owned a local dealership and worked with Brian Boucher who, by all accounts, was a nice and safe guy.

I do the shiitakes (shiits and grits is pretty great), but the fancier ones that cost more are where I've drawn the line so far.

Some might say the proof they're all the same is that the only consequences to date are bad press and some people inside the party publicly objecting.

So we agree that Johnnie's "remember when there was serious conversation" is factual whereas "remember when Dem leadership actively considered" would not be. Good.

I appreciate your Michael Jackson point. I refuse to separate the art from the artist.
Re: Top Shots
Jesus, my impression was based on stuff that doesn’t include “you can’t withdraw your earnings”. I had read a defector article maybe a week ago hit but not the one linked.
Re: Top Shots
Right, but having one from 1965 is an inherently limited asset which is the bulk of the value. A new video of Mickey Mantle, one that is on the internet anyway but now says Topps in the framing, wouldn’t (shouldn’t) have inherent value, right?
Re: Top Shots
“So for $80,000, I’d own the copyright?”
“Oh no, absolutely not.”
“But this would be the only version so it would be like one of a kind?”
“Nope. Over a hundred others out there.”

I have three friends who have gotten it and I’ve worked the gymnastics in my head to make it ok for them but only one would I have been personally comfortable with, if that makes any sense.
