Re: Final Four 2014

Team wearing blue rumbles and stumbles its way through the regular season, gets crazy hot/lucky in the playoffs, beats a team from New England in the final. Nope, never seen that happen before.

Right. I don't mean to suggest that it is a coaching mistake. Just to recognize that in that situation, you are starting from a 20-30% win probability and it makes sense to coach and play as if you are already behind. When Brad Stevens' teams get good enough to be tied late in games, I'll bet he doe...

Re: Sweet Sixteen, Never Been Paid

No, I thought they should have pressed with 30 seconds and a foul to give, even if the result of that was to pick up 2 fouls and send a Kentucky player to the line. Your worst case scenario is a quick press break/dunk, which puts you right back where you were, or Aaron Harrison (80% FT, freshman) on...

Just to illustrate, that game today was Liverpool's 37th of the season in all competitions. It was Spurs' 48th. There's a mountain of other reasons why it was so one-sided, but you can't tell me that LFC would be playing with the same efficiency right now with 11 extra games under the belt.

Liverpool is a pretty good advertisement for missing out on European competition entirely, provided you have the finances and prestige to hold on to a European-caliber team. United and Spurs should start tanking as if they were the Bucks and Sixers now.

I see you dropping points over there, Arsenal.

This might be the opposite of last year when they won 12 of their last 10 games to wrestle away the 4th place trophy.

Re: 2014 NCAA Tourney Thread

Regarding the 3-point line, I think it is a matter of time before the NBA and college teams are taking a similar proportion of 3's. NBA average, which used to be in the mid-teens, is now over 25% while the lowest college leagues sit pretty steadily at 30% from year to year. And then you get to stuff...

Kentucky had its defense back, so it wasn't the typical scramble situation. I think the ideal play would have been a screen and roll but WSU needed another second to pull that off.
