Re: Ridiculous Things You Read On Facebook

So what would you use it for then? Well, not you specifically but what's the worst case scenario that you envision here with FB? Power. Social engineering. Political and economic determination/manipulation. Big Brother. Various levels of global-scale espionage, intrusion. None of it benevolent. All...

Here's a few shots from the Vancouver International Buddhist Temple, a remarkable (and lavish) temple down in Richmond, BC, from a couple of days ago. Re: Ridiculous Things You Read On Facebook

You're welcome, Syb. But you really shouldn't worry about someone stealing information from Facebook as much as you should worry about the fact that Facebook is stealing information from you with no accountability whatsoever for what they do with your data. It would be somewhat naive to think it is ...

Re: Ridiculous Things You Read On Facebook

Every time I see a screencap of silliness from Facebook the user pics are pixelated and the names are blacked out in pretty much the same way. What's up with that? There's nothing remotely illegal about screencapping from that site.

I have no doubt that there will be a replacement tree there this year. I wonder if they'll name it. I may be misremembering this but I'd swear I saw on the Masters a couple or three years ago that they have some big ol' nursery as part of the Augusta National lands on which they had meticulously gr...

Who are you getting for announcers? During the Canadian games it is Harris, Rainnie and McCusker (who is flat-out silly, giggle-gushing like a schoolgirl). But 90% of the curling games have no announcers or commercials. I've PVR'd at least a dozen non-Canada games. ETA2: This is the guide, channels ...

Great idea for a report, Bronto. And well done. I tried something similar about 15-years ago when I was back home in Nova Scotia for Christmas. Not on video or anything like that. I'm going to make a guess at parameters based on Brian's original post. Every athlete he mentioned is retired after a long and successful, if not dominant, career and became iconic statesmen of the game (if not more). So by "beloved" the idea is of someone who was admired not just during t...

"Game" is most familiar, Dave. But you'll also hear a single game referred to as a match on occasion. Or a draw. The latter in the sense of tournament round-robins (like the Olympics). So tonight's women's match is the 6th draw (of ten, I believe). Although sometimes used to specify a sing...
