Am I supposed to recognize all of those athletes? I think I could definitively name 4 or 5 (Gronk, Suh, Ben, Odell, Mariota).

And I'm done.
I actually had QJ in the small blind - not a terrible place to jam before the flop (when you have a very short stack). Unfortunately, it happened to be a hand where another dude had AA.
I'm pretty sure that's my worst showing ever.

Reading about Ben Carson the West Point stuff - I was curious about the dates. It's certainly possible (and kinda reasonable) that he may have mixed up two events and actually met Westmoreland in February, not May. But I checked and found that 1969 was actually the year he graduated from high school...

BTW, if you didn't see the game (and I'm sure you didn't - it was Duke vs. Miami), Miami had a slew of penalties on Duke's seemingly game-winning drive. In there were two pass interference calls on the kid who eventually scored the winning TD (the fantastically named Corn Elder). Each PI call was co...

The post game explanation for that play/review will be interesting. Agreed. That was also the longest play review I've seen. It even had a halftime when the head ref went out to announce a verdict and then changed his mind and went back to review for another minute or so.

Holy shit. Duke and Miami just had the craziest ending I've ever seen (well, that I was watching at the time). Duke scored a TD to go ahead by 3 with :06 left. Re: NBA Season 15-16
Nba defenses don't play pack line. Gotcha, but they do try to cut off driving lanes. But you can't sag in as a team, because there are too many good shooters. Also with the farther line, teams spread their offense farther out, so you'd have to move your pack line out as well, leaving it more spread...

I think a decent albeit imperfect stat to determine a player's effectiveness with his teammates is Offensive and Defensive Efficiency, which works a basketball version of +/-, averaged per 100 possessions. It's not perfect, as it has the same limits as hockey's +/-, but at least it can be quantifie...

Actually, I'd say the biggest problem with PER (and to be fair, I haven't studied it much) is that it doesn't really value defense at all. In fact, almost no basketball rating systems do, because it's so hard. The only easy defensive stats you can glean from a box score are steal, blocks and defensi...
