I don't recall college. Law School was then-US Attorney for NJ Chris Christie. Did anything come of that guy?
Re: MLB 2024
I really hope the next CBA the players address these shenanigans. Push the date to mid-season or so and put some pressure on teams to promote earlier in the season or risk keeping a better player out longer. Or maybe do what the NBA does and tie it to the awards. Like if they make an all-rookie team...

Re: Umbras and Penumbras - The Sun is Going Away
Wish I could make it, but I have things to do around here. Doesn’t help I get up at 4 am for work. Are you headed home tomorrow? I wish I was. I have a flight at 8:30 am. It’s like every time we’re both in the same city a super-rare occurrence happens. Maybe next time we’re around the seventh seal ...

Re: Umbras and Penumbras - The Sun is Going Away
That was fucking amazing. Stayed clear enough here in Cleveland to see the whole thing. I’ve always been an astronomy nerd, and I never thought I’d ever see a total eclipse. But to finally see it - the whole solar corona, the diamond ring - was even better than I expected. Kinda feel like I achieve...

I’m pretty excited for today. Checking out the R&R HoF at 10:30, then hanging out by the lakefront for the show, then come back and catch the ‘Dians home opener at 5. Looks like there’s some cloud cover but still I got good vibes.

I suspect there’s something potentially disastrously scandalous coming down the pike. A top coach doesn’t just leave UK. If it’s money, I would think Cal has enough cachet to get them to match any offer.

I just caught the last quarter in the sportsbook attached to the arena. It looked like the same thing as last year - a machine with 5 well-oiled parts vs. 1 superstar. Of course, I’ve been drinking without eating much, so grain of salt and all that.

Re: Holy fuck we just had an earthquake
I’m at my parents today in Southern Jersey, I didn’t feel a thing. If this turns out to be no real damage I’m going to be disappointed.
If it is damage, it’d be scary and potentially tragic, obviously. But if this knocks out my flight Sunday I guess I’m going on a road trip.

Re: NCAA Basketball 23-24
I don't know how closely the tournaments all work together, but if they set the NIT as an autobid for next year it would probably stop teams from backing out or not caring. I can agree with this part. There were so many opt-outs from this year, which I don't appreciate if it were a coach's decision...

Re: NCAA Basketball 23-24
I know that the excitement for the NIT finals is rightfully muted. But I appreciate that the two two teams fighting for it, Seton Hall and Indiana State, are two teams whose bubbles burst, thereby giving the winner some grist for the mill that they should’ve gotten in. Indiana State in particular wa...

couldn't believe when i was watching that last night that the Astros have had 17 - that's a crazy high amount, no? Great story last night and after the game was a runaway we were all rooting for the no-no. Blanco was dominant and quick. Meanwhile the Jays have been no hit 8 times, 6 in the last 10 ...

The last survivor of the Arizona more than deserves a mention: https://www.instagram.com/p/C5PDKZKxvvg/?igsh=ZjhmNnk0amhwZzQ5 So I’m not going to suggest the Michael Bay movie was any good, but the attack sequence, especially the Arizona explosion, man, how anyone survived that. Oh, and he later got...

So for the last one before we take off next week for UConn's eventual title, O Brother Where Art Thou. I'm a few behind, but I'm looking forward to it; I haven't seen it since I saw it on VHS. We should have a few weeks to catch up. It appears it's on Hulu.

If they win it all, we have to talk about this being one of the most dominant stretches since UCLA right? They haven’t been challenged in 10 straight tourney games. Yeah, no question. At this point, the most recent comp might be that UNLV team that beat Duke by 30 in the finals and then steamrolled...

Since the UConn game got out of hand, I put on the first episode of this season’s Amazing Race. And I’m glad no one told me that one team ended up recreating the corridor scene from the first Austin Powers. I’m not going to have a harder laugh all year.

Those ships might only be going like 8 knots or so, but they weigh dozens of thousands of tons. That's a tremendous amount of force, especially colliding in a relativity small impact area creates massive puncture pressure. It's steel, dude. Not adamantium.
