Re: Coming home....
I'm starting to finish up some things, and deal with stuff for my leaving. Part of this was cashing in the huge bowl of change I've accumulated since I've been here. They have $1 and $2 coins here, in addition to .50, .20, and .10 coins. Went to my bank...(Citibank)...and they told me I'd have to so...

I put this on Facebook, so some of you may have seen it...but yesterday was my last day of work here at the Synchrotron. My initial contract was up, and after a lot of thought, I've decided that its just been too hard on my kids (and me) to be this far away from them. The people I work with really t...

I've just started reading this: http://www.thebookbeat.com/backroom/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Summer68.jpg So far its ok....I'm not really a fan of the guys writing style, but its interesting. Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
Tonight was the 3rd game of the "State Of Origin" series. I was totally confused by the action...until I figured out it was "Rugby Union", not "Rugby League" (the pro-Labour Union ad's were a sure sign). The highlight? The fat naked drunken streaker who ran onto the pit...

Re: The WTF America's Cup Thread
So on Saturday they actually had boats sail against each other (NZ won by 5 minutes over the Italians) Interestingly, the Italian boat sailed 1376 meters (0.74 nautical miles) further than the New Zealand boat over the length of the race, and most of this extra distance came on the upwind legs. I w...

Re: Learn Something Random Every Day Thoughts
I went to an Aussie Rules football match last night. They don't have roaming vendors in the stands at all. Couldn't believe it. As someone who doesn't watch baseball, I am starved for sports this time of year and usually watch recordings of the AFL matches that air here in Canada. I'd love to atten...

for those who follow cricket, the most amazing thing is happening. England vs Australia in the bi-annual best of 5 Ashes Test series. England are collapsing, Australia were 117/9 down and they have now batted for an additional 150 run 10th wicket partnership. The 11th batter (19 years old) is appro...
Re: Movies
"Pacific Rim" was pretty good. Completely over the top. Reminded me of "Top Gun" in a way. Seeing Charley from "Its Always Sunny..." was goofy. And Stringer Bell was a total bad-ass...even though it was strange to see him using his normal voice...not the West Baltimore ...

I've recently started listening to the WTF podcasts again. I've learned to skip the part where Maron rants about whatever at the beginning and just get right to the interview. Its also a good idea to call your bank or Credit Card company to let them know you are traveling overseas. It would suck for the folks at American Express (or wherever) to suddenly start seeing charges from England and think "hey, his card must have been stolen" and shut it down.
