Re: Another Twothousandthirteen NHL Thread

Sooo... in his first period as a New York Ranger, Ryane Clowe has two assists and his first goal of the season - points on all three goals, as it is currently 3-0 for New York, against Pittsburgh. Storybook beginning for him.

This is so much fun that I'll wade through the condescension a bit longer, here. Theoretically, Saskatoon could have finished last in its league, missed its playoffs altogether, but put together a short burst of good play and win the Cup, right? With the unpredictable nature of a short series, it ha...

And sancarlos gets to root for Raffi Torres! Yeah, how weird is that? I felt the same out-of-sorts way when the Sharks acquired Jody Shelley some years ago. But, the Sharks did need somebody good enough to play in the playoffs who is rough around the edges, so I certainly understand this move. But,...

Housing prices in the Bay Area are exploding upwards right now (again), as the Facebook/Google/VC, etc. money gets spread around. Good article about the problem of including a host team in the Memorial Cup tournament. But the fact that the Memorial Cup format will never be changed doesn't mean it isn't incredibly unfair. The purpose of the tournament is to showcase the best junior hockey clubs in Canada. Including a team that...

Even if Clowe doesn't score much for the Rangers, I think he is what they need up front: a tough power-forward who will muck in the corners and keep the other teams from leaning so much on the Lady Byng types like Gaborik and Brad Richards. Clowe does go a bit nuts at times, but he wil drive the net...

Bob McKenzie of TSN reporting that Clowe to Rangers deal being finalized, with price likely being 2nd and 3rd round picks + another 2nd, conditional on re-signing.

Clowe has Iginla-like control over his destination, and supposedly he vetoed a move to Vancouver.

Re: The I need to buy a house thread

I know it seems like renting is throwing away money, but paying interest on a mortgage is throwing away money as well. It takes several years before your mortgage payments start paying down the principle of the loan, so you really aren't getting much equity out the first 5-10 years of the mortgage....

In this tiny interest rate environment, I'd certainly buy, if one can afford the down payment and expects to stay in the area. I think the MWC deserves some accolades. It's top isn't at the level of the Big Ten or Big East, but it's bottom is stronger than the majority of conferences.
