Re: The Live Music thread...
Saw Animal Collective at Mr. Small's a couple of weeks ago. Committed late, didn't buy a ticket until the week of the show. I haven't loved any of their albums in over a decade, but I still love those guys. I would have been angry at myself if I had stayed home. Different feel than their earlier sho...

Some random notes: Þ Cale Makar is still awesome. Don't think I posted this before, but he's averaging a point per game over his career now, one of four defensemen to do so. Can you name the others? Re: 2021-22 NHL season
Watching the Skills Competition on tape delay is a level of commitment/masochism that I just don't have. But I agree that I'm much more likely to watch something like this than an actual all-star game.

Re: The Nostalgiaganza
Harold Carmichael was awesome! If memory serves, for a while he held the record for consecutive games with a reception. Hall of Famer. Nowadays, you look at his numbers and you think, Yeah, that's a nice #3 receiver. I learned recently that Wilbert Montgomery, the running back on those Eagles teams...

Re: The Nostalgiaganza
Harold Carmichael just threw a touchdown pass to Mike Quick in this Eagles/Colts game that I'm watching. I feel like I've watched an inordinate number of TD passes from receivers and runners in 1983. The name 'Harold Carmichael' used to be a weird form of trolling on Pittsburgh sports-talk radio. Pe...

I've heard of one of these girls (Jodi Taylor). Well, I suggest that everybody Google those names right now, especially if you're at work or hanging out with family. Re: 2021-22 NHL season
Looking at the standings for the first time in a while. The East is going to be boring down the stretch unless there are some unexpected collapses or runs. The #8 team (Boston) has 55 points, while the #9 team (Detroit) has 46. So, no real reason to watch other than pure enjoyment of the game or som...

Not best ever, but personal best ever. If you disagree with any/most of these, I fall back on the Emily Dickinson line: 'The heart wants what it wants.' I've been watching the 1983 NFL season lately. Still enjoying this kind of thing. It's perfect for background noise as I read or click around online aimlessly. Some highlights: Of the first ~20 games I watched, about half of them went to overtime. Weird. I rewatched John Elway's first game, vs Pitts...

AB, Nonlinear, and others: good stuff the past few pages. This is strong, personal writing. Giff, your post about rationalizations probably resonated with some folks here. The last time I posted, the Oilers had the best record in the league and things were going swimmingly. Certainly, not much has changed since then, right? Ugh, this team is so frustrating. According to IMDb, it's Jason Hervey's first on-camera, non-wrestling role in 21 years. Danica must be very persuasive. I'm almost tempted to watch some of her earlier work. 'Christ...

Okay, one more post along these lines, and then I'll get back to, like, that weird 1975 New York Giants season or whatever. In 1987, I watched Siskel and Ebert* review 'Wish You Were Here,' a small-budget, coming-of-age movie set in post-WWII England. The way they gushed about the lead actress, Emil...

I still buy some Celebration Ale most years. I still love it, especially for nostalgia reasons. It's one of the first beers I ever truly fell in love with.
