Well, I'm pretty sure Iginla would be harder to trade if he weren't an expiring contract. That actually worked in Cal-Gary's favour.

I haven't seen this verified, but there's a Yankee blogger who said the way the Yankees set up how they're assuming the $13MM actually makes him count for negative $2MM against the 2014 payroll (which is when the taxes go way up). Vernon Wells being worth negative millions feels right.

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Play-In games and Round of 64

And anyway, judging on the basis of a small sample of games is similar to judging a baseball or hockey team that had a very fine regular season but lost in the playoffs. Any sabermetrics guy will note that this happens regularly. Its true, but there's the problem of never having a good sample size ...

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Play-In games and Round of 64

My point is we should be grading on a curve. The Big East is 6-5 as a conference and has three Sweet 16 teams, but that should be seen as a disappointment for a conference given four top 4 bids, two more in the 5-8 range and two below. 10-4 with four teams still alive was the expectation out of that...

Re: NCAA Tournament thread - Play-In games and Round of 64

I've seen that a bunch of places, saying the BCS is proven better because the Mountain West and A-10 combined for 10 bids and 1 Sweet 16 team, but it sort of ignores that those two conferences only had two teams seeded 1-4. They underperformed by 1. Big East had 4 teams 1-4 and passed 3 into the Swe...
