Re: NHL Offseason Thread

It's coming to light that in a bit of a twisted way, Kovalchuk did the Devils a favor by leaving now, instead of say, next year. The Devils will be charged $250,000 vs. cap for each of the next 12 seasons. However, if Kovalchuk had retired next year, the cap penalty would have been nearly $700,000 a...

We knew it could happen sometime, and now it has. A star NHL player in his prime chooses the KHL over the NHL. *First, Kovalchuk reportedly will sign with SKA St. Petersburg of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League on Friday. He played for that team and was its captain during the NHL lockout. *...

Chelios was indeed a worthy selection, but if they ever start an asshat athlete HOF, he's a shoo-in for that one, too.

Can't argue with the logic on the Clarkson/Clowe comments, but all the same, I'm happy for Clowe. He was a warrior for the Sharks, and he used to know how to score.

And, with Filpulla probably leaving Detroit, Alfredsson fills their need to replenish their Swedish second line center quota.
