I had that same book! That’s how I knew the 5 home runs in a doubleheader story!

this is exactly how i first heard of him too - i even remember the book, was called "Baseball Players Do Amazing Things" :) like 10 different 3 page stories of, um, baseball players...doing.... Padres all-time HR leading, Nate Colbert https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5a/Na...

I genuinely hope that whenever Sinema is out in public someone yells at her that she could have protected the right to vote for Black Americans, yet chose not to. Fuck her straight to Hell.

I don’t know how many teams this would make this claim, especially one that’s over 90 years old like the Eagles, but two of their top ten players all time are centers, including arguably its best all time. I believe 2 of the top 6 Steelers in PFR's Hall of Fame monitor score are centers (1st and 3r...

A few years back during the first pandemic summer I used to watch the shit out of the Stihl Timbersports championships while I was working. That stuff was great. There’s a LumberJill from Chadds Ford, PA (Philly suburbs) who’s the best in the world. Easy on the eyes too: https://www.instagram.com/p/...

… whoever signs Wilson will be getting a financial steal since he'll play for the vet minimum (Denver will pay the offset so there's no incentive for him to take anything more). he *could* be fun in a place like Atlanta. I would not understand the play in Las Vegas. that would feel a lot like the s...

I just booked a couple nights in downtown Cleveland, about 6 blocks from the waterfront/Rock n Roll HoF, so assuming I can get a sitter for my kittie-cats, I'll be there. The Guardians have a game that night, so I'll be able to check another ballpark off the list.

Re: NFL 2024 Offseason
At my age I prefer when athletes go out on their own terms and with some gas left in the tank, so Jason Kelce’s retirement makes me happy overall as a sports fan, even if it’s a short-term knock on the team I root for. I don’t know how many teams this would make this claim, especially one that’s ove...

And then that offseason, the Phillies traded defensive specialist Larry Bowa and some middling prospect for Ivan DeJesus. What, what was that prospect’s name? Ryan Sablesberg? Something like that.

The Ripken-Young-Trammell troika was the first core of power hitting shortstops, but I think Ernie Banks was probably the first true middle-order power threat. He played the first half of his career at SS, and put up 512 career bombs. Not too shabby.

Taking nothing away from Caitlin Clark, because what she was able to do in her career puts her down as the greatest women's gunner in NCAA history. But man, what Pete Maravich did was nuts. He averaged 43.8, 44.2, and 44.5 PPG in his three seasons at LSU. This is without a shot clock, no three-point...

In my neck of the woods we have an importer called Cento that cans San Marzanos. It’s the only kind I’ll use.
As an aside, my son asked me to teach him how to make homemade pasta, my gravy, and my parents’ pork meatballs this past week, and we’re going to take over the kitchen next time he’s down.

Great season. Anyway, after watching a couple videos and a quick wiki search, and having 40 years on and not wearing red-white-and-blue colored glasses, Zola Budd was not at fault at all. She was in front, and Mary Decker twice hit Budd's legs from behind. Too bad. She got a lot of undeserved shit f...

Anyway, Barton Fink is up next. I don't remember being particularly enamored by it, but a rewatch would probably be worth it.

I just got Argentina-El Salvador at the Linc for me and my son (huge Messi fan) on 3/22. He chose that over WrestleMania. Cost was... more than advertised in DC.

I didn’t get to it yet. But here’s a lukewarm take. Mikey Day sucks. Nobody is asking he play the straight man to level of Sudeikis or the incomparably versatile Hartman, but shit. When you say every sketch how weird this is with that irritating voice of his, it just blows the sketch. God he sucks.

Johnnie upthread raised a good point. From my experience, my son who's in 7th grade is in all the advanced middle school levels (brag). His history for this year is half a year on Ancient Greece, and half a year on Ancient Rome. And while that's a fun period of history, that better be the only time ...
