Re: The Mass Shootings Thread
This "all or nothing" approach would be doomed to failure. There are thousands of gun owners, particularly in rural areas, who love their hunting rifles, but could be persuaded to support a ban on automatic and semi-automatic "assault-type" weapons. That would be a first step wi...

Re: The Mass Shootings Thread
I don't think it's particularly fair to lump all gun owners into one category, say "change your culture," and step back from it. There's definite nuance. I'm done with going halfway and trying to appease someone that just wants to own a device that's only purpose is to injure or kill. All...

Both of the kids teams are in a league for the spring. I'm doing the scheduling for one of the teams and I'm finding that teams don't want to make the trip, but they don't seem to care much about us having a long drive. The farthest away game is in NJ. Probably 3.5 hours away. It sounds like severa...

Is there an article that researched the names on the spreadsheet and shows which ones go beyond acceptable agent behavior? I knew a few teachers that would have loved to carry a gun in schools. Most of them shouldn't even be teachers. The next logical step is for students to carry guns to protect themselves from the teachers.

We lived in an apartment surrounded by mostly college students when we first moved to town that had a nice .5 mile loop where everyone would jog/walk their dog. I’d take down any posters, paraphernalia that references Penn State, too.. I understand the joke, but PSU is a top school(#9) for school administrators. MSU is #4. Pro tip when hiring somebody to do this sort of thing when you travel (whether they stay at the house or not). Old ladies are MUCH more dependable and reliable than 20-somethings or teenagers. I want to play in an adult league, but that is a hike for a late weeknight game. Only places I've found are in Somerville, Carlstadt or Bridgewater; all around 30 minutes if no traffic. I don't think punishment is the solution. If it's more punishment then there is incentive to cover it up. If it's less then you never do any prevention. Many Division I sports have long ago lost any semblance of being amateur or being for the benefit of the athletes. Take away the money that schools...

If you think these issues are with specific schools and just their athletic department you really haven't been paying attention. Blowing up the AD at a few schools doesn't deter other schools from covering anything up. It may be reinforcing it. Take a look at some of Lou Ann Simon's past history wit...

Fact of the matter is, in order for what happened at Penn State to occur, you needed sycophants in place to be conditioned to look the other way. I completely agree with that.
