What would she be using the laptop for? If she's just going to be using it for web browsing and the like there are many inexpensive choices. Web brousing, for the most part. She does some keying for me in the bookkeeping area, and that might be incorporated. I doubt it though, right now. So you're ...

Re: The I need to buy a house thread
Tax sheltered retirement accounts certainly tie up money, to various extents. That's the price you pay for the tax deal. It's also not easy to do well in the stock market. There's strong evidence that individuals significantly under-perform market averages. The risk of doing badly is the price to b...

Re: The I need to buy a house thread
An important consideration that is typically ignored in the rent vs. buy discussion is the alternative use of funds. Very few people would spend more on rent than on down payment plus mortgage payments plus maintenance and repairs over any period of 5 to 10 years. That means the renter has money to...

The realtor thing is decent advice -- the best part of having a realtor isn't finding you a house, it's the help with the process of buying one and handling all the paperwork. Some for sale by owners will be less inclined to work with a realtor even if the realtor accepts a partial commission instea...

Almost all local banks sell their mortgages anymore. Some companies don't sell as part of their business model, but they usually also don't offer rates that are as competitive. Why wouldn't UCLA make a run at Thad Matta? He's just 45, and he's always going to be second fiddle and Meyer is clearly heading the right direction with the football team.
