ALWAYS Diamond Dave. His WTF interview from a few months back was quite entertaining.

Ditto. And I think that ATBL is their best tune. Saw them with DLR 39 years ago. Damn I am old.

Wait...

He picked up a girl at her parents' house while blasting that song?

Kid's either awesome or a guy no one's daughter should be close to.

My father-in-law has been visiting for a few days. I knew this would subject us to early-bird dining hours and thought it was odd we left to get dinner Saturday at 4:30, but just being told dinner would be about 4:30 today was a bit much. I was figuring on an early dinner in part because I have to leave for a Genius Bar appointment at about 5:45, but 4:30 is fucked up. Go eat a fucking fruit cup so we can eat at a semi-normal time.

Awhile back in New Mexico, I accompanied my parents to Olive Garden at 4:30. I was shocked at how busy it was. Because, old people.

Dude, they were both airborne! I was in a Contingency Response unit. The mission of that organization was to jump into an area, secure the airfield, and establish bare base ops.

Here's a story about one of them and his brother jumping https://www.ramstein.af.mil/News/Featur ... irst-time/

Honestly surprised this photo gallery is still up: https://www.ramstein.af.mil/News/Photos ... ch/Angell/

My commander signed my extension that takes me to retirement eligibility. So, a huge pile of anxiety that I had gained from my failed deployment just evaporated.

(To refresh: I got sent home early from my deployment last summer under extremely stressful and frustrating circumstances. My punishment was paperwork, a sort of 'probationary' thing called an ' unfavorable information file', a very bad performance report, and the inability to promote.)

So, now it's end game planning time. I'll be retiring in the summer of 2021. The location will be Tucson. My gf (who I'll pop the question to relatively soon) currently works for Raytheon here in ABQ. We have friends in Tucson and the main Raytheon hub is there. Simultaneously, I'll be attempting to get orders back to Tucson in a few months and go from there. Maybe accelerate the move to sooner rather than later if Big Air Force says yes. (Ideally, I would've liked to go back to Korea and then follow on to there, but that cannot be guaranteed because the Air Force can't make promises.)

So now I get to figure out what I'm gunna do. 'College' is the answer. Looking at master's degrees, MIT has one that's blended, so I can do some online and some in residence. I figure I'll try that and go from there. (Note: the Post 9/11 is a wonderful thing. I'll get paid money per month and attend college for free. No college debt for this guy.) Then? I'll get a job that's not on base. Probably Raytheon, honestly.

I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to look good in the "light blue button-down shirt and khakis" outfit. Just too ingrained with the suburban dad stereotype. Like, I don't think the 1965 version of Sean Connery could have pulled that off.

It can only work if you're trim and the cut of both the shirt and the pants are slim. But generally, yes.

I am blessed to be able to work in sweatpants and t-shirts.

And the hub of my social life seems to be in the park with other dog owners. 55 years old and own one suit. A blessing to be counted.
