That was from the Sea Hear Now music fest last September. I'll be there again this September if other Jersey Swampers will be around.

Uh, Asbury isn't north jersey so it wouldn't make any sense to have a drawn out discussion in that thread.

The person who lived in my house before me used to be a penpal to some dude in jail in Arizona. I know this because a postcard was in my mailbox addressed to her from the dude's "celly" figuring "why not" and wants her to be his penpal now. I've been in my house for over a year so this must have been a while ago.

I googled the dude in prison. He's just a winner they keeps getting locked up. He has 4 mugshots. And I googled then facebooked the person I think was the penpal. Just a peach, herself.

I feel like this is the beginning of an awesome romcom for these two.

Is there anyone worse than the guy who makes the excuse for sucking at golf, even though they've been practicing a lot, that they've made a lot of changes to their swing?

bit of a tangent, but I went golfing awhile back, for the first time in ten years. I played pretty much the same as before - some great shots, some horrible shots, etc. But, the biggest difference was that I cannot follow the ball in the air anymore, and I cannot find my ball half the time, even when I hit the fairway. That's what you kids have to look forward to.

Speaking of wastes of money, I got a few free months of Kindle Unlimited, and I can't imagine spending $120 a year on such a crappy selection of books. Thank goodness for libraries and the Libby app.

Yeah, it's garbage. Fortunately, my public library has an incredible selection of e-books and the interface to check them out and download them is ridiculously easy. Coincidentally, I got my yearly tax summary today and my household pays only $50 a year to the Clark County Library system and I'd easily be fine if that were quadrupled. I might just donate an extra $100 or something like that to them before the end of the year anyway though honestly there's probably better charities/uses for $100 than something that already gets tax money.

I really wish there was a way that you could pick a certain government program to give a stipend to as part of taxes. Not all of it of course but if everyone had a 100 buck allocation to go to a favored program. Obviously you can donate separately but I think you might see what government resources people value.

Thirded. Libraries really are an outstanding resource. Here, we have access to every library in the county (about 20 of them.). If your local library doesn’t have what you’re looking for, one of the others probably has it, and they’ll send it over.

My wife and I both pretty much always have a book or two and/or a dvd checked out.

I generally try to avoid chains while on vacation but the within walking distance was too good to pass up for the Salt Life restaurant in Amelia Island. And it turned out to be as good of a meal as I’ve had in some time. Got the crab boil and everything in it was tasty. Old bay featured.

Donating platelets as I type, and I have the world’s grumpiest phlebotomist. I’m totally going to make an ass out of myself at some point in the next 90 minutes trying to make her laugh.

What's the process like compared to donating blood?

Are there lingering after effects?

In my experience it was pretty much the same as giving whole blood except it took longer. I give blood fairly regularly and used to always give platelets. But since the heart attack, per my doctor I'm only allowed to give whole blood.

Platelets can have an effect on your stamina athletically as well (more so than whole blood - both have an effect). I made the mistake of donating platelets when training for a marathon once and the training runs for three weeks after were hell.

I donated them until they started taking over two hours despite appointments. I’m an asshole I guess but the blood place is right next to office and I can give you a long lunch or be there a bit late but they never got me in on time so I just do whole blood now.

Although even that has been curbed because my iron is low these days. Literally anemic. Like my power stats for the frogs.
