So the story is the US rallied in the 2nd set of matches. But they split the session 2.5 to 2.5. So they are still 3 points back like after the first session. Guess they are trying to get folks on this side of the world to care.

Tiger and Thomas are 2-0 but Tiger is not going in the 2nd round of 4-ball. Fowler will team up with Thomas. Webb and Reed get a rematch of their loss in the first session.

I wouldn’t wish it upon wlu but you know Augusta is secretly thrilled that they may be able to hold the tournament without spectators.

Yeah was just reading about some of this.

and the club will own the whole town at some point. They just keep buying stuff. The club now owns the Wendys near by. They have not closed it but the transaction closed a few weeks ago.

There's already been a 59 recorded today and now this. What the hell is going on at TPC Boston?

Something's funky with videos on Twitter, but DJ just birdied 11 as well. Golf Channel has "D.Johnson #59WATCH" listed on the bottom right of the screen. Pretty sure I saw at least 2 eagles listed on his scorecard on the front nine, only one par, and the rest are birdies. I'll go confirm, but he may be -12 through 11.

ETA - now it shows up. He birdied 10 and 11 as well, so he's -11 through 11. Par is 71, I believe.

Why would it be #59watch and not #58watch? That's like saying a pitcher is going for a 1-hitter.

It's less about going for the record and more about the iconic history of 59.

A 59 is still golfs “perfect game”not a no hitter, even though furyk bettered it.

I know Rafa loves to golf, but I didn't realize he was this good.
Playing against 59 other golfers, most of whom were professional players, the 34-year-old Nadal finished nine over par after a final round 77, meaning he was tied for sixth position.

The Mallorcan finished 10 shots behind eventual winner Sebastian Garcia, who finished one under par to take home the title.

Nadal reportedly has a handicap of + 0.3 and has competed in the Balearic Golf Championship previously.
Someone should put together a match between Steph Curry and Rafa Nadal. They have about the same handicap. Could be another Phil vs Tiger thing.

A guy playing on a sponsor's exception (Will Zalatoris) is the betting favorite for the Bermuda Championship this weekend. That can't happen very often.

Yeah, the only other known guys there are Brendan Todd and Harold Varner III. It's one of the tournaments in the year where a journeyman wins it and their life changes forever. Back 9 on Sunday of these things is usually a comedy of nerves.

Daly went low yesterday non the Senior Tour and is tied forb the lead. Also getting tested for bladder cancer. Had some great quotes about being healthier. Only 6b cigarettes during the round instead of a pack and a half. Plus he is drinking healthier but for diet cokes.

Guessing that the Father-Son challenge this weekend will get some pretty good coverage because of Charlie Woods on the course. Mixed feelings on this one. Good on Tiger for going out there and playing golf with his son. Good on Tiger for giving Charlie a chance to play in a low stakes but competitive tournament. But feels risky to have such a spotlight on this kid.

Since watching "The Short Game" documentary, it just makes me think about how likely Allan Kournikova will turn out all f'd up.

Why are golf announcers so obsessed with "stopping" Bryson DeChambeau? I mean everyone is playing the same course and has access to the same equipment.

tiger proofing or bryson proofing is very expensive for courses. They want players to have to make hard decisions and a variety of storkes. Not just who hits it farthest wins the tourney.

First off ^^^

Secondly, one of the things Bryson is doing is destroying the rough aspect. I watched a good chunk of last week's tournament and he would spray stuff into incredibly difficult/tall grass areas and just power his way to a shot onto the green.

Tiger used to do this and make a big show of it, lots of torque and twirling the club around--hopping on one foot...

Bryson just goes up there and smacks the shit out of it without all the flourish. Just feels like his swing is less harmful to the back.

This.

Although, this isn't just a Tiger or Bryson thing. I remember folks registering the same complaints about Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson. But I think Bryson is getting more attention because he intentionally bulked up during the Covid break solely to get more distance.

There are other remedies to reduce distance if the USGA and RA agreed to it. Setting max lengths for drivers would help, as would making tees shorter. Or courses could make the rough and bunkers much more difficult and more penalizing for those who don't hit the fairway.

If you look at any tournament though, the top 16 at various stages isn’t always the best of the best of the best.

They could handicap it. When one of the top 16 plays the bottom 16 they start 2UP. The other matches have a 1UP handicap.
