I was curious as to how Fox news would respond to the Senate report on CIA torture. I wish I hadn't been.

The fun really starts around 2:30 when they go to the couch. "America is awesome!"

Pointing out the stupidity of Fox News is like shooting fish in a barrel, but there is something very disturbing about this segment. I am reminded of an old Fall song "Who Makes The Nazis" which had a line about "intellectual half wits" helping make do just that. This is what fascist TV looks like.

Guh. so the timing is politically motivated? Is there a single day, ever, that Fox would not call the timing politically motivated? How can people, with a straight face, say they don't care or don't want to know if our government is torturing. Absolutely sickening. Saying "post 9/11, everyone was scared" is ridiculous. During war or facing a 9/11 situation is when we need to hold our government to abiding by the law. It is Japanese internment camps all over again. You can't just throw out human rights because you are scared. The worst, though, is the argument, "but ISIS is doing it!" Foreign policy needs to be a step up from a 5 year olds whiny logic about fairness. Essentially, that is saying that America should not be held to a higher standard than a ragtag band of fundamentalist terrorists. FFS, if you love America, hold your government in higher regard than ISIS.

Also brings up the 8 years under Bush where it was anti-American to criticize the President, or even question whether we should invade Iraq. But it is perfectly OK to rail on that the next President hates America, is trying to institute Sharia Law, protest with lynched effigies, you get the point. How do we get back to the point of being able to have a rational conversation with people with opposing views? I wonder how much is the internet allowing us to read idiotic ramblings, name calling, trolling, etc... that always would have been there, but i was sheltered from these people, how much is the divisiveness of hate spewing media and politicians abiding by the divisions?

Two weeks ago, the New York Times - and other respectable outlets - reported that Pope Francis told a sad kid in St. Peter's square not to grieve too much over his sick dog because there's a place in heaven for dead pets.

The hell he did.

http://www.religionnews.com/2014/12/12/ ... ng-heaven/
Yes, a version of that quotation was uttered by a pope, but it was said decades ago by Paul VI, who died in 1978. There is no evidence that Francis repeated the words during his public audience on Nov. 26, as has been widely reported, nor was there was a boy mourning his dead dog.
The article has a nice summation of how the false story spread.

Maybe in journalism school they stress the need to show people things as opposed to merely telling them.

Yeah, I'm with rass. I was about to post that with a "what a bitch" comment, but gave it a second thought. The video appeared to be edited to only show her responses--it's possible she was being legitimately screwed over. Plus that company has an average rating of like 1.2 stars. It doesn't excuse the extreme mean-spiritedness and she may well be an awful person, but some context is missing.

The line from the towing company is that she parked in a lot for a restaurant, then went to a bar afterwards, leaving the car in the private lot 2 hours after the restaurant closed.

There are predatory towing companies out there, and it sure sounds like this one falls into that category. But it sure seems plausible she just fucked up and then threw a fit (likely a few drinks into the evening... totally speculating, obvi).

The big problem for Brit (aside from the annoying name), is that she went full "do you know who I am" in a situation where, frankly, "no, I have no idea who the fuck you are" is a pretty reasonable response. She's a sideline Barbie doll that I couldn't pick out of a lineup 10 minutes after seeing her on the air.

She can take her one week suspension to ponder "Do I know who I am?"

If they really fucked her over specifically, or it was plainly obvious that shitty business practice was common there, then "do you know who I am" as a lead in to "I'm in television" doesn't really bother me. In other words, if it was meant more as "I can ruin you" rather than "I'm famous, treat me as such".

Tow truck drivers just need to make a living...

But because of the way they do it, they really are among the lowest of the low.

Here in Toronto, you always see a couple of them idling at highway on ramps. The Ottawa police even ran a sting on them recently...

http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canad ... r-be-fined
Police say trucks competing for towing contracts are breaking a city bylaw when they park within 100 metres of an accident scene and try to solicit business from motorists.

Sgt. John Kiss, who manages the Ottawa police towing contracts, said the tow-truck races have become so aggressive that Ottawa police have staged fake accidents to ticket drivers who police say are chasing collisions.

“They cause a traffic hazard, they are aggressive towards motorists trying to get their business,” said Kiss. “They are aggressive towards each other: We’ve charged them for assaulting each other at collision scenes, so it’s a bit of a free for all, unfortunately.”

...

So what is a driver to do when they get into a fender bender? Kiss advises calling your insurance company for a recommendation or risk being charged “outrageous towing costs and storage fees.”

Oh, I totally agree with that. She was being a total jerk and that comment was probably the mildest of the salvo.

=-=-=-=-=-=

I haven't checked out the Yelp, but one thing I wanted to say about "predatory towing" that I'm not sure everyone is aware of:

What a lot of these guys do is sit across the street from a strip mall and wait for people to park in spots that are assigned to certain stores. If the person gets out of their vehicle and walks into an adjacent store, they'll swoop in and hook up the car. This is often done without the store owners knowing what's going on. Say you're picking up carry out, but you know it's not ready, so you pop into the convenience store to pick up drinks or whatever before heading in to pick up your Chinese? They nail you.

I'm sure that's not just a DC area thing, but it certainly happens a lot around here, especially out in the burbs (but often in areas of heavy immigrant populations.)

Yeah, I agree with AB. We can all agree that towing companies often suck, but that doesn't give this bitch the right to insult the looks/intelligence/job/education/etc. of the woman who works for said towing company.
