Nice to see the love for the brothers. Guess that's what Baltimore will do.

I’ll be that guy. I think it’s pretty shitty.

That you didn’t have more kids raised to be this awesome.

You and the Mrs. have done good BFJ. Impressive kid who I am sure will only do even more at school.

Agreed, but it can be very frustrating for school personnel because so many kids lack the commitment to show up all the time or to put in enough effort to make it successful. And many just aren't good with children. In other words, it's a wonderful accomplishment. Congrats, bfj and son.

Seeing BFJ's post gave me a warm feeling inside.

So anyway, L-Jam4's Cubs beat the Brewers this past Tuesday 13-6. The Brew Crew were well-behaved, even #5, so maybe their earlier cockiness was just an aberration. One somewhat distressing thing I saw was the Brewers coach being a dick to one of his pitchers when he had to sub him out. He literally snarled "get off the mound" to an 8 year-old

They had a strong 75-minute practice last night, and they take on the Royals tonight in the Championship. Win or lose, they are going for cookies and ice cream from the coach. I really feel fortunate with his coach, who was the same coach L-Jam4 had last year, especially seeing the boorishness of other coaches. Throughout a lot of losses this season he never stopped talking the boys up, always stressing having fun and being good teammates and good sportsmanship, and not to get too high or too low after a result.

Just back from my son's University graduation.

The boy is now a B.Des (Bachelor of Design). Unreal.

Thanks!

It was a gruesomely long and boring ceremony, but about halfway through I became incredibly giddy. A real highlight.

Jeez. How man “z” names are there if the “y”s are only halfway?

The giddiness came from being with a giddy wife and an overly sentimental mother-in-law and realizing that while I still have very vivid memories of the time around my own graduation... my baby boy is now done with university.

There was also a general elation about last night's game.

Top of the world.

When you become a father, you get more sentimental than you'd ever have imagined before parenthood.

My son was a premie - weighed just under 5 pounds at birth, touch and go for the worst two days of my life. I saw these things - the incubator, etc., as I was looking down from the balcony as he was lining up to take his big healthy body across the stage to get his diploma. Just got dusty again.

Man, when I was single, I may have gone a decade between tears (other than drug induced). Now, it can hit without warning.

Yeah, I was like this until having my kids. My wife is pretty ridiculous and I can literally make her cry sentimental tears on cue. I'm not that on edge, but I certainly tear up at things now that never would've registered with 20- or even 30- something me.

My co-workers think I’m pretty heartless because I didn’t tear up at his graduation. I don’t happy cry. I appreciate the moment and get sentimental, but I only cry for sad things.

Man, I used to make fun of my mother for the way she could tear up in a second. Kodak ads, sports highlights with emotional music, the very sight of Barbra Streisand...

And of course, I've inherited those genes. Lucas Moura highlights had me smiling with tears rolling down my cheeks.

So the youngest started us out this morning at his track meet. Ran a mile (personal best 8:22), 100M, 100M hurdle, and 800. Taking second, third, fifth, and second.

Our oldest had MMA taking this morning, going from black belt to first degree black belt. He rocked his test. The otherwise quiet kid was a little badass, especially during his sparring rounds.

Back home, a celebratory meal ordered, and a beer in hand. One proud dad today.

Pretty much. Or slice me up with his new katana.

ETA: When he was promoted to brown belt a couple of years ago, I gave him a free punch at my shoulder. It was bruised for 3 weeks. He's deceptively strong for such a skinny kid.
