Right? Or wants the chance to play the Jets twice a season. He definitely makes things interesting.

Tannenbaum on the Dolphins, Rex on the Bills, Belichick on the Patriots -- the Jets are surrounded by ex coaches and players.

I like that the Bills didn't fall into the trap of going for the best match to improve their current weakness. It's more important getting who you think is the right coach, no matter what his strengths are.

This doesn't bode well for the Jets. It is just the Jetiest thing ever. If Belichik didn't bail on the Jets, well, he probably would have failed miserably, gotten fired, never worked again and been a mere blip in NFL history.

From Jersey to Buffalo. I guess we can't be surprised that Rex would be down with the Reverse Sybian.

Beautiful. Layover in Boston, but I'll let it go. Rex better hope Binghamton University doesn't start a football program anytime soon.

I'm not surprised that once they got serious about Rex the Pegulas lock him down. Their full-court press looks pretty effective. Kim seems to be one of those hyper-classy get shit done types, and Terry seems to be a real closer. I'm sure he got a lot of gas leases signed around kitchen tables back in the day.

Nice to get another guy you interviewed for HC to be the OC if the stories about Greg Roman are true.

That was bugging me, too. Finally decided to make that point right now. Western New York is a completely different place than the rest of Upstate NY. Buffalo especially, is really more similar to the Midwest than the Northeast, IMO, and certainly more similar to the Midwest than it is Upstate NY. The Great Lakes tied it to the Midwest.

This never goes away.

I think there is a zone of good faith argument starting at Peekskill extending north to Poughkeepsie. Anyone who argues for something south of that is being facetious, anyone who argues for something north doesn't appreciate the distinction that comes from being on the commuter rail line. Different set of rules west of the Hudson, where Upstate starts when you get past Palisades Mall. The correct response to the Western NY variant is "who cares"

I grew up just outside of Albany and I'd draw the line at either Poughkeepsie or Kingston. I don't buy Peekskill, because I don't think anywhere in Westchester can be called "upstate."

I think of Upstate as Poughkeepsie through Albany. Queensbury north is the North Country / Adirondacks.

It is true that "upstate" does not really carry a negative connotation in New York. It's not like having to admit you're on Long Island. Yet almost everybody will say that upstate starts somewhere north of where they live until you get to Albany. Personally, I don't think that upstate is a useful description of any place that primarily gets NYC television stations. It would be like someone from Evanston saying they live in "Illinois" and not budging when asked to be more specific.

It's own special place. All that shit is west of 81 (or is on it) and that's the greater Finger Lakes, no? Then Rochester west is WNY.

and in thinking about it Upstate probably starts further south than Poughkeepsie, Peekskill? Newburgh? I suppose it matters if you looking at it as defined by someone from NYC or someone looking south toward NYC

This is absolutely true. I don't think anyone above me has considered me upstate and I'm positive no one from the city has ever not.
