It's the Steelers' insistence that the equipment guy who was texting about "taking out the balls" was just considering applying for veterinary school that has me skeptical that nothing is amiss here.

The fact that this happened in near identical circumstances with the balls being below the legal limit and was quickly swept under the rug means definitively that the league doesn't give a fuck about air pressure in footballs. This same response should have happened back in 2015.

How is that a fact? It sounds to me like a) the procedures are different now than there were then, b) the Giants didn't file any sort of formal complaint, and c) these balls weren't shown to be underinflated. Doesn't really sound like nearly identical circumstances to me. And yeah, even if things were the same, I'm sure the league doesn't want to go down that path again unless there's indisputable evidence of tampering.

The most important difference is that the Steelers didn't have a guy who literally calls himself the Deflator get caught on videotape taking the balls into a bathroom for an amount of time sufficient to deflate them. My understanding is that the Steelers balls were always with the proper personnel after being tested by the refs and thus there wasn't the same obvious evidence of intent to deflate.

The balls were noted to be 11.8 and 11.4, respectively. Pretty much in the same zone as the Patriots footballs because science. But how was that signaled by Mort in his famous, deleted tweet?

Do you really think the Steelers and Giants are gunna start shit between each other since they are "literally married to each other, as if they are 18th century European rulers"? Give me a break.

And the "Deflator" comment was discovered amongst a massive text message dump to investigators in May of the previous year. One text message one time not placed in correct context by an organization with massive leaks and inconsistencies throughout the entire investigation with the intent to smear and shape the conversation. I'll believe 22 physicists putting their reputation on the line with science than the bullshit put out by the NFL.

So yea, the NFL doesn't give a fuck about transparency. And they hushed this quickly.

It is pretty hysterical when you think about it how “woke Johnnie” and “woke Rush” can spout and agree with us that Trump attacks the free press and then immediately return here with Patriots Pravda every time there’s a well-reported story about the Pats.

From just this tweet and the "who deserves the most credit" line, this seems so lame.

Until actually proven with a breakup in the off-season, I just don't see a billionaire, a head coach, and a quarterback quibbling over who deserves credit as a reason to split things up. That's too petty. There has to be something far more damning.

And if it is true, it's been a good run. A run you would've amputated a nut for if it was your Lions.

So calm down.

I read the article and it suggested that a big part of the tension is Brady's TB12/Alex Guerrero bullshit. Namely, that other Patriots players feel pressure to use Guerrero given Brady's stature, but Belichick knows Guerrero is full of shit and would prefer players rely on the actual doctors and trainers employed by the team. That part, at least, is pretty believable.

I just read it. It wasn't even a hit piece. It was a bunch of stuff we know: Guerrero is a quack. Brady wants to play forever. Belichick wants to sustain the future and shape his legacy. Plus, it looks like McDaniels and Patricia are gone, so the feeling is that "the end" is near. And it gives some behind the scenes stuff. It was a good read.

But we'll see how long the story dominates headlines and we'll get the embrace debate opinion soundoffs from everyone.

Ok, good laugh here: Brady has noted to staff a few times this year that, no matter how many game-changing throws he makes, Belichick hasn't awarded him Patriot of the Week all year.

Those who know Belichick and Brady well are amazed that they've co-existed this long, two ruthless and proud self-made men, both secure though still unfinished in their legacies, both loved and hated, both having received stiff penalties for cheating, both motivated by ego, humility and -- as much as anything -- doubt.

But after Garoppolo was knocked out of his second start because of a shoulder injury, he set up a visit at TB12. As he later told Patriots staffers, when he arrived, the door was locked. He knocked; nobody was there. He called TB12 trainers but nobody answered. He couldn't believe it, Garoppolo told the staffers, and that night ended up visiting team trainers instead.

Kraft hugged Brady when he saw him that week, in full view of teammates. A few days later during practice, some players and staffers noticed that Brady seemed especially excited, hollering and cajoling.
