Not mentioning it because it's completely irrelevant.Rush2112 wrote:Amazing that you aren't mentioning that the Broncos cheated the salary cap to win their two Super Bowls.Pruitt wrote:

Just an FYI - I'm not one of the guys hammering away at the Patriots for this ball nonsense. Pick on someone else's comments.

Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
Listening to the Simmons/Cousin Sal podcast and reading his prediction column today makes me think he hadn't seen a Seahawks game all season. In the podcast, he talked about their "Man-to-Man" defense....and the Hawks never play Man-to-Man defense. And in his column he wrote about how maybe the Hawks defense really isn't that good. Huh?
Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
No but you keep reiterating your hated for "cheaters" yet never a mention of cheating that actually led to a team winning a Super Bowl, but I guess some filming of useless signals out weighs cheating the salary cap.Pruitt wrote:Not mentioning it because it's completely irrelevant.Rush2112 wrote:Amazing that you aren't mentioning that the Broncos cheated the salary cap to win their two Super Bowls.Pruitt wrote:

I thought he was talking about how they line up across from a man and just play vanilla rather than actual man to man.

Bowlen said in a written statement released Thursday by the Broncos that the club gained no competitive advantage from these cap violations.
By the transitive property ... you know ...

Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
Not just the Broncos but the 9ers too. They suddenly had money to get Deon Sanders during a Super Bowl run, but it's not filming useless signals so it can't be cheating!!
(I've basically handed out copies of that article to Bronco fans that instantly go to SPYGATE!! while wearing their Terrell Davis Super Bowl commemorative jerseys.)
I admit that the Patriots ran afoul of the rules in the past, but you can't scream about one thing when your team is guilty of acts even more egregious.

Rush, the Broncos said themselves they gained no competitive advantage. That means they gained no competitive advantage.
Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
Yup being able to resign a hall of fame QB and a border line hall of fame HB, gave the Broncos no advantage in winning or defending the Lombardi Trophy. Was Pat polishing them when he stated that?mister d wrote:Rush, the Broncos said themselves they gained no competitive advantage. That means they gained no competitive advantage.
I can see how one might say that filming useless signals lead directly to the decade of dominance (and a better record after the incident) and being able to resign hall of fame caliber illegally are exactly the same thing, then again I had a shitty day at work and am a few beers in.

Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
Hey man, I'm just as confused as you. Logic tells me they gained from the rules violation, to the extent I would have identified the exact same gains you did, but Bowden says they didn't so its pretty clear that means my logic is faulty.

Back to the thread topic. Kam Chancellor twisted his knee in practice. He's listed as probable.

Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
I'd say there are still several points in Montana's favor, even in Brady wins tomorrow. One is that Montana won two Superbowls before the 49ers drafted Rice; while he still had some good receivers on those team, I don't think there were any HOF'ers. Additionally, Montana's performance in Superbowls was off-the-charts great, as he went 4-0 and never threw an INT in any of those games. And perhaps most importantly, to the extent that you value QB rating as a decent approximation of overall performance, Montana was head-and-shoulders above his contemporaries in a way that Brady hasn't been. If you compare Montana and Brady with four other top QBs from their respective eras, you can see that Montana was much more of an outlier:brian wrote:I don't think winning helps or losing hurts him at this point. Considering that NE's receivers for most of his career were/are hot garbage, it's hard to not put him ahead of Montana regardless.AB_skin_test wrote:Might as well talk about something non-controversial...
Does winning the Super Bowl change Brady's place among greatest QBs? I think by getting to his 6th, he's put himself pretty firmly ahead of Peyton in terms of the generation's best, but would winning his 4th make the MOntana/Brady debate closer or was Brady already ahead of Montana?
Montana's Era
1. Montana, 92.3
2. Marino, 86.4
3. Kelly, 84.4
4. Moon, 80.9
5. Elway, 79.9
Brady's Era
1. Rodgers, 106.0
2. Manning, 97.5
3. Brady, 95.9
4. Brees, 95.4
5. Roethlisberger, 93.9
Obviously, some of this was due to Montana playing for Walsh, who was at the forefront of innovation for the modern passing game. But at the same time, I do think Montana deserves credit for just how good he was statistically as compared to his contemporaries.

At work (the Paul Allen Institute for Brain Science) the other day, they had a drawing....and the two winners got to fly down to Arizona yesterday on Allen's private jet, are getting put up in some fancy hotel in Sedona for 3 nights, get driven to the game on some fancy bus, then tickets to the game in the owner's suite, and then the VIP after-party with the players and coaches.

Yes but as far as I am aware they did this signing while actually abiding by the rules of the salary cap. While the 9ers and Broncos didn't.

Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
They plied Revis with alcohol, let him sit on the couch next to Gisele, and then Gronk took him out on a party bus run. This may not be technically against the rules, but it's an unfair advantage when it comes to pursuing free agents.
Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
I think they did as well but I need more proof on the niners besides "they signed the best corner in football before a super bowl run". I'm not saying they didn't, but I'd need a lot more.Rush2112 wrote:Gunpowder wrote:Does Rush realize that the Patriots signed Darrelle Revis for a super bowl run?

I'm cheering my guts out for the Seahawks, but I'm calling it New England 24, Seattle 21.

Re: Super Bowl XLIX - Patriots v. Seahawks
Ideal result for me would be a game similar to last year's, so all of the post game analysis is about why the Pats sucked so much and not about how great Seattle is.
I'm thinking it will be close though, and like the Pats by four or less. 26-24.

Just spoke on the phone to my father who is in a rehabilitation hospital (all is well, just a few lousy weeks ahead of him), and he asked me who is Katy Perry.
Honest to God, as I was answering him, my hands came up in the international symbol for "Boobs." Reflexive...
Enjoy the game.

Pre-season pick: Pats to win over Saints
I'll go with that.
Key play: Nate Solder to Tom Brady 57 yard touchdown pass, where Edelman (lined up as guard) laterals intentional fumble to Solder (lined up as kicker) after fake end-around to Josh McDaniels (lined up as back judge).
In the post-game celebration, Robert Kraft gives his championship ring to Vladimir Putin, who takes the opportunity to declare that he is removing the Russian soldiers who are not in the Ukraine from the Ukraine. Also, Newfoundland.

Wilfork will play in the second half, but disguised as "Wesley Welker" and lining up in the slot. He catches 7 passes for 49 yards and 8 first-downs.
After the game Wilfork will announce that he was giving the Patriots' signals to the Seahawks because they were holding his children hostage. They were actually hanging out in Robert Kraft's suite, but Goodell immediately awards game to Patriots, and then on live TV has Pete Carroll hauled off to an interrogation site in Kazakhstan that is operated by the NFL in conjunction with the CIA. Marshawn Lynch too, just because it will be good for Goodell's image to punish an unsmiling black man who will presumably beat women and drive after drinking a beer at some point in the future. Also, they had an extra seat on the C47.
