You know what's going to happen here--he'll hit 10 home runs between May 15 and June 23, become a 4 out of every 5 games player, and have an OBP of .206 after that.

This is awesome. Why? This is a Dave Littlefield move. (But Dave Littlefield would have paid the full salary).

From Olney's blog this morning:
Here's the part about the Yankees' willingness to take on $13 million of the money still owed toVernon Wells: Why the heck didn't they spend that money on Russell Martin last fall, to retain him at catcher?
And I saw somewhere that they are still looking to add, probably a platoon 1B. I'm sure there will be great pickings out there.

If you move the decimal point over one place, Wells is a nice pickup as a weakside corner platoon.

Keep that in mind when the Yankees are off to a 13-7 start and Wells and Youk have combined for 10 HRs. Its destiny.

I got a new work laptop today, and was so proud of myself for this exchange at the head office:

Yankee superfan co-worker: So, you finally upgraded from that old piece of crap, eh?
Me: Yeah, it was kinda the Vernon Wells of laptops - serviceable, but not what you want.

I haven't seen this verified, but there's a Yankee blogger who said the way the Yankees set up how they're assuming the $13MM actually makes him count for negative $2MM against the 2014 payroll (which is when the taxes go way up). Vernon Wells being worth negative millions feels right.
