So Obama is as much of an egomaniac as Trump then? I don't know. I guess I really don't get what your response was supposed to mean.

Pretty clear you were referencing Trump wanting his name to be bigger because of his ego. But you have to go back just 4 years to the golden boy to find precedent. That's what I'm saying. Trump is unquestionably an egomaniac. I think Obama is as well. Maybe not AS BIG, but on the binary scale of egomaniac or not, I think both check the box.

You need to have three qualifications to be president:

Speak well in public
Wear a suit
Be an egomaniacal sociopath

And there are all kinds of reports out now that Trump, as late as midnight last night, was trying to back out of the Pence pick...seems like he wanted Christie, his kids wanted Newt, and campaign staff wanted Pence.

It is amazing that a person who has offended so many people, and whose campaign is being run by rank amateurs will still get over 40% of the vote.

Having said that, hard to vote for Hillary without having to hold your nose. She's going to introduce a constitutional amendment to override the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court?

Sure She Will
Intending to close any loopholes allowing for dark money, Clinton would urge more transparency for outside groups and any "significant" donors sponsoring their cause.

You do know that Citizens United was a case directed AT Hillary, right? The notion that she somehow benefits from it is from Republican masturbatory fantasies.

Just want to state again how overjoyed i am that dense will no longer be governor of Indiana. Fuck that dead-fish hand-shake fuck face. I hope to any all mighty that he gets the ass pounding he deserves from Donald and Don, Jr. Fuck that guy. He made this state the laughing stock of the US for some time, and that is a hard thing to do when there is always KY and OH.

Here's what I'm curious about--the plagiarized sections are so banal, I'm wondering who could have spotted the plagiarism so quickly. Is someone really that familiar with past speeches given at political conventions that they recognized the similarity right away? Was someone literally sitting there with a copy of Michelle Obama's speech in front of them when it happened? Or was it something more sinister--an inside job, a plant? Done by, you know, someone within the campaign who is not actually trying to win the election?

Anyway, when do Uday and Qusay get to speak?

I wondered that, but I think it might have been laziness by the speechwriter. Michelle's speech from back then was widely praised, so it's not unreasonable for people who follow that to remember.

It's just the human ear. Ever hear something on a baseball game and say, hey that kinda sounds familiar lets look it up. Looking it up takes 2 seconds.
Something important like this, it's not surprising someone found out right when the words came out of your mouth.

It seemed like the speech transcripts were going around before the actual speeches last night. Perhaps people read them first, and noticed the similarities, then waited for the actual speech to sync them up? Kind of strange, but that's what I think I saw on Twitter. Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer (Keeping it 1600, Bill Simmons podcast network, and former Obama speechwriter and press secretary (?)) were tweeting about it.

Trump's campaign manager says Melania didn't plagiarize anything and that she was using "common words and phrases" (also blamed Hillary of course), Chris Christie says 90% of the speech was original so that's what counts (obviously admitting she lifted), and Reince Priebus says he'd fire the speechwriter (Melania claims she wrote it herself). Unity!

and did you notice Melania dropped a Rick roll in the middle or her speech too. "He will never, ever give up. And he will never, ever let you down".

I tend to believe the theory that somebody within the Trump camp did it on purpose, knowing it'd get spotted. How else do you explain the inclusion of a Rickroll? (As, degen noted.)

It boggles my mind that an actual significant national political party put on that show last night.

The worst thing is that with all the fun everyone is having with the plagiarism, there's less attention being paid to how hateful the program was. I mean, calling up victims of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants for the purpose of deceiving people into believing that illegal immigrants pose some kind of threat - even though native-born Americans are by far a more violent group than immigrants, legal or illegal.

Between this shit and the false claims about American Muslims celebrating 9/11 and about people calling for a minute of silence for the guy who shot the cops in Dallas, this is starting to scare me. It's far too similar to 1930s Germany for my liking.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

What about an elected official (Steve King, R-Iowa) saying:
"I'd ask you to go back through history and figure out, where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you're talking about, where did any other subgroup of people contribute more to civilization?"

Hayes asked: "Than white people?"

"Than, than Western civilization itself," King said. "It's rooted in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the United States of America and every place where the footprint of Christianity settled the world. That's all of Western civilization."
That's some quality White Supremacy right there....
