I drink LaCroix and Bubbly, usually just the lime variety and usually whatever is on sale. I like Spindirft a lot too but its expensive around here. 8-9$ for an 8 pack or whatever they sell in.

Frankly I just wish I knew what most of them are. I think that's why I like Spindrift because it tells you the fruit in it and you can get an idea of why the flavor is there. La Croix is just "essenced" which I assume means they do put something in it but it's in such a small amount they don't have to legally put it on a label.
Just snagged some spindrift to see wtf is up. 5 bucks for an eight pack.

Beat Barry Bonds in a bike race. 21 miles around virtual Richmond, VA. Barry 56:54, wlu_lax 53:39. Plus I did the ride while leading a meeting to update the ref association bylaws and constitution (and with no performance assisting drugs supplied by a member of the Tower of Power).

Dry January achieved/completed.

Ran every day of the month, for a total of 144 miles.

Ate well, ate less. 198 on 1/3 and 184 yesterday, which is about where I was before the fall/holidays.

Won't be able to run for at least the next 2 or 3 days due to the snow still piling up, and I took a pre-storm walk to the liquor yesterday for wine.

Nice work, rass!

It's amazing what one bad weekend can do. Ate great last week and didn't drink, then I go to my Mom's and it's red meat/carb overload. I even skipped the donuts and I nearly erased all my progress. Oh well, I know that's not a normal weekend and it's not going to discourage me dammit.

After turning half of my garage into a gym, I've started lifting again. And gaining weight. I had managed to avoid gaining weight during quarantine with the neat trick of losing muscle, but getting fatter. Now I'm putting muscle back on, but I still have my gut pooch. Maybe that will eventually shrink?

They say gaining muscle is the best way to lose fat... I've found it works. When I gained muscle, my weight stayed the same and fat decreased.

Irregularly. Never even owned a scale until a year or two ago. I really don't care much about my overall weight. I just don't want the pooch.

I’ve not been actively doing anything but eating smaller lunches and more vegetables overall but I’m down to my lowest point since I was running regularly. I’d be pretty pleased if I could get another five pounds before an upcoming dr appt. he was the one that tile my I had to lose weight instead of should lose weight and those five pounds would make it right around 25 total since he said that last February.

Nice work, AB.

It's been a month since my appointment and I'm down 6.5. And in all honestly, didn't really start taking it seriously until two weeks ago once I got my lab results back. I've had two meals with red meat since, cut back on alcohol and continued my 45-minute daily walks. The difference I feel mentally and physically is all the motivation I need.

Not sure if this belongs in this thread or the Capt Trips thread, but I'm going a little stir crazy and getting a little down after 11 months in.

Last year I ended up running over 1,000 miles and lost ~28 lbs. Easy to start last year with treadmill running because I can't stand running in the cold. My gym is open, but I'm still not open to going there. I just don't trust other people enough to take that risk. Six weeks into this year, I'm back up 10 lbs. I've run about a quarter of the amount as this time last year and I'm doing little to nothing else to replace it. Probably not helped by the fact that I have a late night snack with a beer or two about 5 nights a week, where I end up going to sleep somewhere between 12:30 and 2:00 every night.

All to say, my first step that I've decided to do is what I've termed "Beer Night Saving Time." Starting today, I'm going dry until Daylight Saving Time starts on March 14th, aiming to get to sleep no later than midnight every night and just dealing with the cold and getting out there for a few extra miles a week, minimum of 12. I needed to write it out so I can hold myself accountable. Thanks for reading.

Same happened to me. I went 11 days without running and never do any other exercise. I had to stay with my mother for a lot of that time, which means healthier eating and less drinking so didn't gain weight. Last night I got back to running very slowly on lots of black ice and eating food truck pizza and drinking after.

Good luck guys.

I've definitely felt a little something after not being able to run for the past two weeks. Not sure if I can call it stir crazy after living through the past year, but maybe that's it. I think having a routine has definitely helped make this easier, and the routine is busted right now. The sidewalks and corners are still so shitty around here that I don't feel safe running, though I did start going for walks last week. Raining today and we're supposed to get more snow later in the week, so yay.

I completely relate to all of this, except the quitting drinking part. I stopped working out because I was shoveling so damned much, and now it's hard to force myself back into it. Up about 10 pounds. Once I get into the habit of working out, I crave it and it's easy to get back on track, but I need to force myself to build up to that again.

Not sure if this is the best place, but fit in with the discussion. For those of you going dry, these non-alcoholic craft beers are actually good.

https://athleticbrewing.com/

Found them after learning of another, more local brewery, had a story in the Denver Post. They use a method of brewing as normal, then extracting the alcohol, leaving most of the regular taste behind.

It is a little pricey, but you could try using STOUT50 for a 50% off promo code. They had to substitute some other types when they ran out of stout at the beginning of the year and provided the code. You don't have to order stout to use the code.

Sounds like a commercial, but nothing in it for me. Just passing it along.

the budweiser NA isn't bad either. it hits my "I want a beer" craving during the week.

I'm excited to get back running. I was lifting ... 10-12x a week? over the last month as part of this program I had never had the opportunity to try. figured the winter and a home gym was the best opportunity.

All y'all are quite impressive.

I'm basically unable to run anymore due to Achilles tendonosis in my left heel. I biked for a while last year, but it never really "took". I was never able to force myself to do it enough to get into decent shape, so it always sucked. My exercise was limited to hiking and walking - which we did every day all summer, including a few long ones, but it clearly didn't do the job, because I like eating too much. I had to go one size bigger in both shirt and pants.

At only 5'8", that's really embarrassing.

Anyway, in the past week I've ridden a new bike trainer four times, gone snowshoeing twice, downhill skiing once, and a couple of longer hikes in the snow. I really hope I'll be able to get into riding shape before spring so I can get past the shitty part faster and at least get into decent riding shape. I don't know if I'll actually lose weight, but if I can do the hill climbs I'll feel good enough about myself that the weight won't matter to me as much.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

What kind of bike trainer did you get? Smart one? Zwift-compatible? Best $15/month I spend during the pandemic.

My wife got me the dumbest one she could find. I generally hate riding exercise bikes, so I figure I won't use one very much. So I didn't want to shell out for something very expensive. So it's basically just a stand to clip my road bike into, with varying levels of magnetic resistance.

I downloaded a couple of Zwift videos I downloaded. They had one for the brutal route over the mountains near Moab. That's the ride I was all set to take when I got in my wreck years ago, so I wanted to at least do that one vicariously.

But since I'm not in riding shape at all, I can't actually follow the power and RPM settings they recommend. I mostly just ride at my own pace with the video on in front of me.

I think I'd really enjoy having a simulator where I could ride up up Alpe d'Huez and the other Tour de France climbs. But I just don't think I'd stick with it enough to justify the expense.

So I'm on night two of this, and the Valentine's gift from my wife just arrived today: Three random IPAs with snack pairings. I hadn't told her I was doing the dry month, but I did when I opened the gift. Does this belong in the irony thread? The craft beer thread? Either way, I guess they'll wait until mid-March, about when the next shipment from my beer-of-the-month birthday gift arrives.

I'm back on the wagon, but more in a "hanging on to the bumper as it drives away" fashion as opposed to "driving the wagon" as I should be.

Had a great run 2 weeks ago..until my calf started to hurt. Was in a lot of pain after, but felt a little better the next day, and it seemed to be improving. However after a week (when there was almost no pain from walking), I did a really slow run, and it didn't feel right. I had a minor calf injury years before and tried to race with it the following week which caused a major calf strain (never got it diagnosed). I'm not so stupid now that I'll try to race but I'm probably being stupid to try to run through it. We've had perfect weather and I feel I'm losing so much progress. I'm wearing a compression band and looking to buy a deep muscle massager, but I don't know what to do. Some days I feel I'm babying it because of my former experience; other days I feel like I'm on the road to re-injury. This all happened after a year of no injuries and right when I started looking for marathon training plans.

I'd go see a massage therapist. A few years back I discovered a guy here who used to get hired by Notre Dame track to go to meets for them. Had a bad hamstring injury that kept me away from running for over a year, and have been back in my singlet ever since.

I think I like the costco cookie dough ones better than the quest cookie dough

Those massage guns are worth every penny. Bought one about two years ago to help with some trigger points in my lower legs and back, and it's been one of the best investments I've ever made. Working out those trigger points hurt like hell, but it was necessary to get everything healthy again.

I went to the doctor in January at 243 and got put back on medication for high cholesterol with the request I come back in 3 months for another physical. I had to go in yesterday because I've been having some weird sensations in my chest (she's not concerned, EKG is perfect) and the first words she said when she looked at my file were "is this number right?" referring to the 226. Hearing how proud and impressed she was is just more motivation to keep this up.

I think they've come down in price considerably over the last couple years too. I saw the $1k variants being hocked on Instagram all the meanwhile you could get a $50 Black and Decker jigsaw and get a few attachments from this site:
