I'm fascinated by Take The Bridge, Orchard Street Runners, Black Roses NYC, Knox Robinson, etc.

The National's sometimes in house photographer, Graham McIndoe, does a lot of photos of Take The Bridge events.

1.) Who knew this was a category where they ratify a world record (What are the requirements to have this ratified?)
2.) This should only be allowed at the Memphis event (Berlin is not right)
3.) Fat should be a separate category

More on my co-worker's son racing this weekend in the qualifier. Funny side story from hallway conversation on Friday. Reebok bought him 2 pairs of Nike Vaporfly if he wants to race in them. That tells me something about those shoes.

That race is going to be great. Looking forward to reading that. My running coach narrowly missed qualifying at 43 y.o.

My son ran a 5K this weekend, and I saw the most impressive finish I've ever seen. The first female came in 3 seconds behind the race winner (which says more about the field) at 18:18. A pretty good time, for a first female, but this girl was 9 years old! That is fucking insane. Her little sister came in at exactly 21 minutes. She is 6!!! After the race, a guy in his 60s came over to the mother saying, "I remember seeing you at races when you were about that age." Mother started 5Ks at age 8. The grandfather rode his bike next to the 9 year old, calling out times to keep her on pace. The mother did the same for the 6 year old.

I'm pretty sure I've (we've?) seen those two run at XC events. I think they realized they had the course marked incorrectly (or poorly) when those girls weren't the top finishers (pretty sure that happened at an event a couple of weeks earlier than the state championships this past fall, and not the championships themselves).

Holy shit. Only 14 high school girls in the entire state of NC beat that this past season.

Watching my son run high school track, I did notice a trend though of young girls (8th and 9th grade) doing quite well. It's much rarer for boys.

Grant Holloway set a world record last Wed in the hurdles that stood since 1994. What is interesting is he did them in normal spikes. Not "super spikes". Guess the super shoes are hitting track too. Nike Air Zoom Victory and New Balance FuelCell MD-X are two they are writing about. They are talking about it screwing up hurdlers because even today hurdler have to cut the 3 stride to do it correctly but could really mess up the stride with the super spikes.

Interesting. Sort of like speed suits in swimming. Tech is moving too fast.

Also guy who owns the local running store broke 3 hours for a marathon for something like the 24th year in a row.

Heck, she beat two of the finalists in the 400m final that was run on the same track an hour earlier. Like if you put hurdles in front of her and nobody else, she wouldn’t have finished last.

Relay meet this weekend, kid is running in the DMR late in the event but my wife and youngest are gone all day so I headed out early to get some photos of the team. Got a great bagel with a truly pitiful schmear and stopped to say hey to cerrano who is here with his team and while it’s a little overcast hopefully it’s a good day.

First weekend in what feels like a long time without a meet. Dressed for cool so lucky and team swaged up... Like it... Am definitely jealous of the daughters warmups. Last weekend was near sweltering here. Regionals Thursday and Friday. Girl picked up sprint relays in addition to vault so long days. Rather she study for APs so secretly hoping good performances that fall a little short.

mixed results at Penn Relays

4x8, for which they qualified... first heat.. not so good. game time decision by coach as to who was running as multiple getting over injuiries, including their senior who was recruited to rutgers, 13 ouf of 16
and i missed it.
we left in plenty of time.... but philly traffic was a shitshow and the cops closed down most of the garages around the school. got into it w a traffic cop for a bit. i'm still here. took me a couple of HOURS to find parking quite a bit away.
the 4x4 -- anyone can enter -- they ran 3.28 just two seconds off their PR... so guess good thing they got loose in the earlier race.
found out ast the last minute that a nephew's school was there as well, so my sister tells me her boy was scratched at the last minute due to returning senior being ready.. would've been nuts if the cousins competed vs each other (they live in MD)

best thing we saw all day, we saw the 100m for O40, O50, O60, O75... even the guy who won the o75s 100m would smoke me. wow. 13seconds.

Defector just posted a story about the Penn Relays: At Penn Relays, It’s About The Vibe
Once a year, though, the stadium is undeniably bumping. It is still not full, but it is very much a scene. This weekend is Penn Relays, a track meet that has been running since 1895, with the exception of COVID cancelations in 2020 and 2021. The word “Carnival” was attached to the meet's name in 1910 due to the atmosphere that surrounded it. Five thousand watched the first relays; now about 22,000 athletes compete in track and field events over the three days. Attendance can top 100,000 over the three days. Usain Bolt drew 54,310 on the final day in 2010.

The 4x400 (and individual 400) is an electric race and part of what makes it so fun is the sea of HS kids running from one side of the infield to the other to catch the lap. Good times worth all the lulls earlier in meets.
