The Oystons really are contenders for the worst owners in sports. They're suing a fan forum for £150,000 for libel.

Jimmy Haslam begs to differ.

No doubt Haslam is a contender, too. It still surprises me that Haslam was the highest-rated potential owner by the NFL's own vetting process before he bought the Browns. Then again, nothing really surprises me about the NFL these days.

In their (somewhat) defense, the NFL seems to attract these billionaire micromanaging dipshits for owners. If you exclude franchises that have been owned by the same family for 30+ years, that would more or less describe a good 50-75 percent of NFL owners (Jones, Snyder, Haslam et al.) Even someone as relatively tame as Arthur Blank falls more to that side of things than not.

Something different. They sued a fan for libel earlier this year for something he wrote online, and now they're suing a message board for six instances of libel. The suit against the individual went to court last week, and the judge gave the defendant 21 days to mount a defense against the libel claims.

Blackpool gave up 42 shots to Brentford today, of which 14 were on target.

The managed one shot, which was off target.

Possession was 74 percent for Brentford.

They lost 4-0.

Envy of the Football League.

Scary thing is that Brentford isn't really that good as far as Championship teams go. Until today I didn't really think Blackpool had gone in the tank. Just hoping that Derby can secure one of the automatic promotion places and not make me sweat the playoffs again this year.

Which is, after all, what it is all about. This isn't Russia. (Is this Russia?)

£9.45m profit on £12m parachute payment from dropping out of the Premier four years ago is some weak sauce. OTOH, I think that means the club only lost £2.55m otherwise on the dismal operation.

I did not even realize the Pool has 25 players on the roster, let alone the fact that 25 folks could leave after the season.

Yeah not a whole lot of optimism of a quick return to the Championship. I think most people are expecting to be more like Yeovil Town (relegated last year and bottom of the table in League 1 right now)

This is getting absolutely crazy now with Blackpool FC.

Before the season started, Karl Oyston told the fans to "judge him in May" after the farce that was the preseason. Remember, the team canceled a preseason training trip to Portugal because they only had eight first-team players and no goalkeeper, and most of their preseason games featured a lot of players who went by the last name of "Trialist". They slogged their way through a season in which they accumulated 25 points in 45 games, and only scoring 36 goals in the process. Their goal differential this season is -55, and ironically, their player of the year was the goalkeeper Joe Lewis. (Lewis is on loan from Cardiff City, and Blackpool tried to terminate the loan because they would have to pay Cardiff £40,000 if he made a certain number of appearances. Cardiff refused to terminate the loan.)

Blackpool also managed to go the entire season without a single win away from Bloomfield Road, becoming the first team in the Football League to accomplish that feat in 106 years.

Naturally, the fans are furious, and they're planning a massive protest outside the stadium for this Saturday. The protesters were going to rally around the Stan Mortensen statue outside the stadium.

I used the verb "were" for a reason. The statue is now gone, and the club isn't commenting.

More than 2,000 fans marched and protested outside Bloomfield Road before today's match. And now the game has been suspended and delayed more than 15 minutes as a couple of hundred Blackpool fans invaded the pitch after halftime and are sitting at midfield.

ETA: And in case this couldn't get any better, there are reports one of the fans in the field rolled out on a mobility scooter.

Another bit of English jargon I did not know. You don't forfeit, cancel or postpone a match; the match is 'abandoned'.

On the twitter, a few NUFC fans are going, 'hmmmm'.

They also activated the option on Nile Ranger's contract. Which doesn't seem odd, except Ranger has been AWOL from the team since November. (This is the same Nile Ranger who's had some interesting experiences in his life.)

The Blackpool Supporters Trust has offered to buy Blackpool FC from the Oyston family for £16 million.

Interesting. If the deal goes through they'll be the Packers of League One.

read about this today. Folks see to think the Oysters won't take the deal because the Pool is their social circle. There was also something about a 6 week ban on the chairman for abusive texts. That means the board won't review this for a few more weeks.

I root for Derby County because its owned by Detroiters but I don't think Blackpool will ever make it back up to the Championship again any time soon, so I can let the comparison slide (Blackpool might have more luck if they were actually just bought by the damn Packers. I can't believe it would only cost 16 million pounds to buy the team -- I would have guessed a hell of a lot more, even with being relegated to League One.
