Copa America

Post by Pruitt »

Know why these soccer players are paid so much?

Because they seemingly never stop playing.

Copa America kicks off tonight.

All of Comnebol will be there. Plus Mexico...

and Jamaica?

Gotta be a Mexico B team since the Gold Cup starts in three weeks. This is a big Gold Cup year as the winner gets to play the U.S. in a playoff for a Confed Cup spot in 2017 (unless the U.S. wins at which point we're automatically through).

And if Jack Warner was still running shit, I'd put heavy money on crappy refereeing that would ensure that playoff game. I'm still worried about it...

Isn't sending a b-team what got the U.S. uninvited from the Copa America

Watching a game that Ray Hudson is announcing is like being trapped next to hyper drunk in a bar.

The guy has never seen a pass that wasn't the greatest thing ever, each shot on goal is preceded by bizarre noises and each replay comes complete with him reading through a list of metaphors.

Wasn't Tommy Smythe the onion bag guy?

Out of nowhere last night, Hudson started calling Arturo Vidal "King Arthur" which then led to a half dozen references to how regal and royal he is. I'm going SAP on tonight's game.

I guess that was Smyth. Here is Ray Hudson's trademark call:

Brazil are so useless without Neymar. He was marked out of the game by Colombia then he got frustrated and got sent off. Probably will be a 2 match ban.

Brazil will go out early again and make excuses that they didn't have Neymar again.

I hate what Brazil has become. Heads in the sand.

Brazil is still a global power in soccer, but their reputation as the kings of the beautiful game - "Jogo Bonito" and all that crap - is just so much marketing nonsense at this point.

Thought the final was pretty good - but definitely a low rent seeming tournament.

Still, helped fill the gap - now there's only 5 weeks until the EPL kicks off.

For me, it was a great example why fans love/hate South American soccer. Take Colombia. They were a revelation a year ago at the World Cup, scoring goals, playing great, attacking soccer. Then they get in the Copa and revert to a team of hacks. James was a non-factor all tournament because for some reason, they decided to hack their way to the semis. And it almost worked.

Chile, on the other hand, are the reason fans love SA soccer. Aside from the incident with Cavani, they played a really fun style, playing at great pace and always in attack mode. I'm glad they won because they were the best team at the tourney. Argentina played one good game and never really got going. You could see it in the final. Too many waiting for Messi to do something amazing and win the game for them.

Most SA teams know they can't compete straight up with Brazil or Argentina so they decided to play anti-soccer, thinking it's the only way to compete. Chile, unlike Colombia, believed in their talent and didn't fall into the trap of feeling they had to beat the shit out of Argentina to win.

Chile did a fantastic job of marking Messi - and while there were e few "hard" challenges, it wasn't all that bad.

I really liked how Peru played as well. Hope they can finally get their shit together for qualifying.

I just got presale passwords from US Soccer and MLS for "Copa Venue Passes". I guess these get you the same seat at every game at that venue. I am not planning on going to any of the games, so if someone wants my passcodes, PM me. Looks like they are using unique codes so I only have 2 to share.

Used my codes for the Orlando package today. It's the most crap group of games of any venue. Three games, the first two are 3v4 seed, and the third game is Brazil. At least it's not Brazil's third game, after they've already clinched.

I got a code as well. Seattle gets an Argentina game, and a quarterfinal.

Not going to go...may try to pick up one ticket somewhere for one of the games.

Final is not included in the venue pass, but buying a venue pass gives you priority access to lottery for the tickets to the final. But $400, $500, or $1425 before ticketmaster fees

The Linc ranges from $300 to $1500

Seattle $240 to $1600

what a stupid way to do a draw, first team out of each pot should be in USA's group and then draw for group position.

Should be USA, Colombia, Panama, Bolivia
