www.kexp.org has been amazing all day. All black artists...with no air breaks for the DJ's. Except for one this morning at 9...complete silence for 8minutes, 48 seconds.

I hate to see what's going on, but it's pretty tough to tell black people (and their allies in the streets) that nothing good comes from rioting.
Wasn’t the Civil Rights Act passed in ’64?

(To give those who ain’t got a little more?)

The reaction to the 1967 and 1968 riots was Richard Nixon being elected.

There was also an important CRA passed in 1968 which included Fair Housing legislation, among other things.

The police continued to not be dicks in Miami and nothing is burning to the ground. Damages in my area amount to:

• A cracked window at the CVS

It's remarkable how well not indiscriminately tear-gassing crowds and not escalating situations keeps the peace. Fuckin' remarkable, I tell ya.

Hear you but they tried that Friday night in Atlanta and didn't go so well. I'd say more like the other way around. If protestors are peaceful then the cops can avoid using tear gas and tasers. Peaceful protests are fine but when property is damaged you have to crack down as a government. I wouldn't do that job for sure. No win.

You go hard and end up fired and charged https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ajc.co ... /amp.html

You stay calm and end up in Grady ICU https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbs46. ... c.amp.html

He's complaining about the LAPD police chief, so I'd imagine some Zoom based Los Angeles municipal meeting.

It's the LAPD commission meeting. I believe that's the chief at the bottom.

The response in Houston has been pretty impressive. A friend of mine manages a Marriott right across the street from where 60,000 protesters gathered yesterday and was very complimentary of how peaceful everyone was.

Can we get Johnnie on this regarding the Lincoln Memorial? Isn't it a requirement under international laws of war, or at least (NPI) conventional that members of armed forces have identifying info like a name plate on their person?

It helps that the chief of police there is not only not a fascist, but a really, really decent-seeming dude.

(It's weird how in all of these cities where the leaders of the police departments seem to respect their citizens that there's no violence. Guess we'll never understand how that happened.)

Those could also be police, right? Can't tell anymore.

Of course, they're supposed to as well (at least an identifiable badge of some sort.)

It looks like there are some police vests in the background, but I've also seen there were troop like people saying they worked for Department of Justice, which led people to believe that whatever Blackwater is called now is involved.

Which, if true, should be one of the biggest scandals in American history since that is not only illegal, it's tantamount to treason.

Don’t those vests say “Military Police”?

I mean, there were prison guards around the white house this morning. We aren't far from a private force or a vigilante maga force.

I guess I just assumed that since the uniforms all matched, they were all from the same unit. But who knows.

Blackwater was deployed in New Orleans during Katrina. Can they say they are hiring them as security guards? Sure, they are military mercenaries with all the equipment and weaponry of special forces, but there are THUGS out there that need to be DOMINATED!!!

Oh, yeah, I'm not... like... cool with it.

There just seemed to be some question about who they were.

Sounds like this afternoon Chauvin's charge will be upgraded to 2nd degree murder and the other three officers will be with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

For Chauvin absolutely, for the three officers, i think that's going to be tough to prove, especially if Chauvin was the senior of the leader of that troop.

They stood and watched. If this were not a gang of police and instead the same thing happened with civilians, and three others stood around and watched someone choke someone to death, they would face the same charges - rightfully.
