Steve - the police departments are white nationalist para-military forces. How does that get fixed if not with military intervention?

1. I think you're overstating it. Our obsessive focus on these things tends to warp our perspective.

2. I thought we were talking about whether there would be widespread bloodshed if Trump loses. The police departments have been white nationalist para-military forces for a long time, and they haven't hit the streets in the past when Dems won. Not even when the country elected a Black Muslim Socialist who was going to take everyone's guns away.

Re: no. 1 - no, I am not. Look at the stats of blacks and Hispanics killed by the police compared to white. That’s what this whole damn movement is about. The slow motion killings from 1866 to the present of blacks in this country have never stopped and have been aided and abetted by the police for that whole time. This is a modern day linkage between police and white nationalists that mirrors the linkage between police and KKK that US Grant tried to deal with during first part of his presidency.

Question is how did a 17 year legally have a long gun in either Illinois or Wisconsin. Age to purchase or have possession in IL is 21 and 18 in WI. They need to find who the gun is registered to and bring them up on charges also. \

And how is it still possible for any unlicensed seller may sell, deliver, or transfer a long gun and/or ammunition to a person of any age. So federally this murderer was allowed to have the 'rifle' if given to him or purchased from an unlicensed seller. That is some absolute bullshit. I just can't understand how people do not see an issue with this type of loophole in the laws.

I am not one for limiting 2A. But I am all for smart laws in place on who can sell/purchase these weapons. Mandatory training for certification to own. Mandatory background checks for all purchases. It isn't that fucking hard.

The thing is, Trump cannot "use the Insurrection Act" to force the election to the House.

Not, it would be illegal for him to do it and someone would stop him. Because, duh.

It's because he cannot. There is no even facially legal process for him to stop the electors from voting. They meet on December 14 in their respective states and cast their ballots. Unless he is going to send the military out to lock up the electors (something like Lincoln arresting the Maryland legislature), they will vote.

If the five guys at my office talking around the table this morning cared as much about the shit going on in Kenosha and beyond as they do about whether little jimmy is gonna get to play high school football this fall, we'd be in a lot better place.

If only they cared as much about strangers activities in Wisconsin as their kids activities? Get what you're saying but one is a lot closer to home.

So, Trump is positioning all these riots as what happens in Joe Biden's America. Even though it is happening right now in real time in Donald Trump's America.

And, to read comments on twitter, I lot of people seem to be embracing this twisted logic. I'm gonna have a heart attack.

All these people jumping through hoops to try to defend the cops and this kid. (He had a knife in the car! It was after curfew! Self defense!)

Everything bad is done by Antifa and protestors. Never the police or their noble vigilante right wing thug "helpers"

A right wing military nut job killed cops in Oakland in a carefully planned attack, and at the Repub convention they outright blamed it on protestors.

To cross threads, the larger scale of this mentality is why riots happen and why I'm not going to condemn property damage. People are very content to ignore social issues that don't affect them, so actions have to be taken that can't be ignored. And before we get into the "two wrongs don't make a right" nonsense, consider what the equal reaction to police murdering a citizen really is and whether these wrongs are anywhere near level.

Unfortunately, I think actions like property damage actually hurt the cause rather than help it. Many people go from ignoring the issues to actively being against "the protestors" they blame for the property damage. And, they associate the protestors with "the Left", so that's how Trump is using this issue to increase his support in places like Wisconsin.

The property damage thing is a tricky one. There's been a lot of self-policing in the Portland protests, where many of them are actively stopping or at least shaming the individuals who get into that. (And I'm talking arson and window-breaking etc., not so much graffiti).

But at the same time, a protest that is comfortable for the indifferent and the oppressors isn't a protest at all.

also raised the question of WHO is doing the property damage. Ample evidence of that being the right-wing boogaloo types in many instances looking to incite. Like the Minneapolis guy who was filmed breaking windows and later ID'd...

And in Las Vegas. And Oakland. And Detroit. Etc, etc., etc.

Some of the damage is being done by those on the left obviously, but there's several instances where it's been proven to be right-wing agitators.

It's a well crafted commentary, but I am too devastated the past few weeks to laugh. I think I finally hit my breaking point with the election, fear of Trump stealing the election, fear of Trump refusing to accept defeat and what his base will do... I've hit my breaking point with living mostly cooped up in the house, stressing about the ever changing back to school issues, and a lot more smaller personal stresses that I'm aren't worth posting about. I'm just done. I'm trying not to watch or read about the election, but politics is like my hobby, so I need to replace it, and I feel it's irresponsible not to pay attention right now, as I genuinely believe the fate of our democracy is at stake. I feel stupid when I try to explain the dangers to those not paying attention or still thinking Trump is less dangerous than Biden, but it really is this dire right now. Throw in hurricanes, riots, doughy white teenagers gunning down protesters while the cops help him get away, it's just too fucking much.

I'm trying to focus on fantasy football as a distraction, but I can't stop thinking "why bother, COVID is shutting down the NFL anyways," and I have a really hard time caring about imaginary football leagues right now. At least the EPL is starting up in a few weeks. I actually could have gotten myself to care about the Community Shield, but I'm not paying for ESPN+. Fuck all of these pay platforms.
