I Love Eggnog

Post by sancarlos »

My recipe for homemade eggnog:

Combine in blender:
Three eggs (or equivalent from carton)
Two cups milk
One tablespoon vanilla extract
One tablespoon sugar

Blend. Pour in cups. Stir a shot of bourbon or rye in each cup. Ground nutmeg on tops.

And dammit, some old time OG Swamper had a really epic nog recipe back in the day, but I never tried it. If I can get someone (hey dad) to agree to try it, I'll make yours SC.

I like sancarlos, and I typically trust his judgment, so I finally decided to try eggnog last night. It was just the store-bought stuff, but it was available, and it was free. I hated it about as much as I thought I would. I'm sure that you guys will tell me that I need to try homemade eggnog, or add alcohol to it, or whatever. No, thanks. I'll just stick to Four Loko.

(Howeva, about a month ago, I tried apple cider for the first time and liked it. I had been wrong about that all of my life.)

Ah, Bapo!. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

The Alton Brown recipe is excellent, but I'm too lazy to separate the yolks from the whites and add them at different times.

Hard cider or the stuff from the grocery? (which will become hard cider if you just wait)

Just regular, flaccid cider. I'll try a hard cider if it's presented to me, but it's not something I need to do.

Taylor Hall's first-time banana consumption has inspired me to try new things. Next up: cottage cheese. Do you think I'll like it? Would it be better mixed with eggnog?

Rheingeist has the best ciders in the business, IMO. Dry Hopped and Semi Dry are great. Not too sweet.

Didn't know that Rheingeist brewed cider. I've only had one Rheingeist beer, but I'm a fan because I spent a great afternoon at the brewery last year. (Yes, I spent an afternoon in Cincy, and you're g-ddamn right I cornholed.)

And with names like Dry Hopped, I guess they're trying to appeal to craft-beer drinkers. So, craft cider is a thing now, huh?

It's been a thing for a while. There's a cider house in Athens, and they make some damn good ciders.

Woodchuck has been making hard cider since the early 90s.

It used to be the most consumed alcoholic beverage in the country, and there is speculation that Johnny Appleseed was spreading the apple love so that settlers would have apples for cider.

Yeah, my wife has always been a hard cider drinker (she hates beer). So I always have some in the fridge. It's good stuff, but I have to be careful because it goes down a lot easier and faster than beer.

I made sancarlos's eggnog recipe a couple of days ago. I rather enjoyed it. It wasn't nearly as thick as the store bought stuff, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

I’ve determined that my annual holiday season weight gain may have something to with my annual swilling of gallons of eggnog.

Hello. My name is sancarlos and I’m an eggnogaholic.

He's okay. Hanging in there through the pandemic like a great many of us.

Still doing bapo-ish activities, such as watching entire 1970's NFL seasons and reading a ton.

No big deal. He's a good guy and said he swung by to pop open a few threads last night.

Prior to one of the poker games this summer with brian and bengal and some other guys, I hit up Howard and offered to send him the accompanying zoom link if he wanted to surprise some people. He ended up with another commitment that evening.
