Baby Yoda did a wound heal via The Force in the last episode, so I guess that’s a thing.

Well palpating did say that hadn’t been seen in generations or something like that. Which means palpating doesn’t know about baby yoda.

I just saw it last night and thought it was great. I'm not really sure why folks are hating on it. I guess some people feel it didn't properly follow the fake rules for the Force or something? I've even seen people rank the various SW films on Twitter with this one below some of the prequels, which is just insane to me. The only explanation for that would be if you were 8 when the prequels came out and you hadn't seen any of the other Star Wars movies earlier.

I'm steering clear of this thread, for the most part, until I see it.

But anyone putting ANY of the franchise after PM is fucking INSANE. I went back on Disney+ and just popped that on while I was doing chores the other day.

Holy fuck is that a bad movie. That's a bad movie on just any old movie scale, let alone the SW franchise.

FWIW, I don’t think the Marvel movies were much better except for at least trying to tie a bunch of disparate threads together into a single (more or less) narrative but the issue is when a huge company geared solely and soullessly on making money realizes they can put any kind of crap on the screen and fans will lap it up because of FOMO they don’t really have to try any more.

Ultimately the American consumer is to blame. People don’t want new stories from auteur filmmakers they want safe, comfortable characters they know. I don’t know how many of the top 20 grossing movies of 2019 were original stories (ie not sequels or prequels or remakes) but I’d bet it wasn’t more than 5. The consumers have trained the bean counters to give them more Soylent Green.

So, I rather successfully avoided a bunch of spoilers and saw the movie on Sunday. I totally understand the disjointed comments. But I strongly disagree with the comments saying this movie was overly corny and sentimental. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, precisely because it seemed very similar in style to the first trilogy.

A lot of people forget and have mythologized those movies. Go back and watch them again. Corny as fuck. And I loved them. People saw movies as children/young adults and can't seem to fathom that seeing that as an adult is going to strike them a different way.

Watched tRoS for the second time this evening on Disney+. Underestimated how upset my youngest would be by Chewie’s apparent death, all 5 minutes of it.

Didn’t notice the first time in the theater that KR’s scar disappears after the big visit.

I’ve also decided the only cool part of the movie is the saber transfer, and even the lead up to that feels a bit like a takeoff on the throne room scene from TLJ.

Not a great movie!

I still haven't seen it, but I abandoned trying to stay spoiler free a long while ago. Your review is common among SW nuts I know. No one really liked the movie. The guys on Puck Soup were saying that they went opening night and you had people who had bought tickets months in advance in cosplay openly laughing at the plot and flow of the movie.

I guess it's to be expected. It's a franchise and not every one is going to be a home run. Maybe I'm just too old now. The only ones that still hit me are the original 3 and even some of that (Jedi specifically) are just super campy now.

Generally speaking episode nine blows holes. Or maybe fucks the dicks. But the storming a destroyer in atmosphere via ground forces is one of the better ideas.

"Say something nice about a movie (or band, or...) you otherwise dislike" would be another good thread idea. Need to write down some notes for a slow Friday.

And you're not wrong. If only there had been just one of them and not thousands...

But I'll play along and on top of the previously mentioned saber transfer, I thought the way that the look and the way that they shot the Emperor was really effectively creepy.

Way late to this...but we finally watched the Mandolorian.

What is the timing of this show? Pre-episode 4? Post episode 6?

And is that really Yoda? Or just the same alien race?

It was weird seeing Bill Burr show up on an episode.

Cool to finally see how a Tie Fighter lands.

And boy, is that baby yoda cute.

5 years after return of the Jedi....so same race as Yoda but not Yoda..but who knows...the force...strange writing...could be some reincarnation stuff.

What I like is the Mandolorian being basically a western. Even after each episode you can see the art direction stuff they show has that feel.

Also seems like season 2 has a big Ashoka story line. So start watching the clone wars and rebels may help get ramped up on that character.
