Meeting me in a Target parking lot in Clearwater with a wad of Swampbucks should certainly rank higher.

I have to fucking tell some people this or im going to explode. Its not officia, but an agreement was signed and all we are waiting on is the property in question to give us exact dates so we can sign the contract, but a comedian friend of mine has booked me to do 15 minutes to open for him at one of the casinos on the strip in Vegas in October or November, for a 5 night gig. Guys, im going to be opening on Vegas. i promise this is not a joke.

Holy fuck, is that happening fast! Big fucking deal, TT! I'd think that is one advantage starting standup older, you have more life experience to draw from, and you have a lot more to draw from than most people. I hope this works out for you, very exciting news.

Its surreal. its so much so fast. it feels like a joke. i wanted this but i thought it would take years. it feels unfair to the people ive met whove been working for 7 years for exposure like that. I just...fuck. Is it not a little ridiculous to have a resume that looks like

im not out of line for thinking this is insane right? Hes having me.open his show. warm up his crowds. he thinks im THAT funny. i just...fuck. its a lot right now. all i did was not get high for 4 months

Keep not getting high and you'll be flying us all out for your Netflix special. Stick with it and don't take the process for granted. Keep working at it. Proud of you bub.

It is insanely fast, but your surprise and doubt are actually a great sign (IMO). If you were confident or felt entitled to the shot, I'd be worried for you. I have to assume the headliner is a pro and knows what he is doing. If he wants you opening for him, he thinks you are ready. Just know all the greats ate shit early on, and don't let it demoralize you when you eat shit one night, and you very likely will. Hell, the greats still have nights where they don't click with the crowd.

When self-doubt creeps in, just remember, that guy is a headliner...
They have to EARN that shit. He knows exactly what he's doing, and you KNOW he doesn't want to put some clunker up in front to warm up his crowd. I mean, he also doesn't want some dude that's gonna annihilate and have to follow, but from all the podcasts and specials and docs I've watched, they know what they're doing when the put together a show.

You got this, dude. Very fucking cool.

I'd echo this too. It's a great opportunity to do your job and get noticed. Word gets around those circles. Get the crowd going, get them in a good place to laugh, and then talk up the guy who got you the gig like he's Chris Rock and you'll have a lot more than 5 dates in store.

Congrats, TT. Was really just going to say what Nonlinear said: this guy wouldn't be giving you a gig like this as a favor if he didn't think you were good. Use that for both confidence and motivation.

I can tell you that doubting people's confidence in you is something that 90% of writers do. I go through this every single time I start a script or even start putting ideas together to pitch. It sucks, but it's part of a particular mindset that is common in creative fields. (Probably in all fields come to think of it).

Example: This kid I've been mentoring ("Kid" just turned 30) just got a full time well paying gig in production development at a good-sized Toronto animation company. Huge break for him. I gave him the pep talk last week - the people who interviewed him have been in the business for decades. They know what they're looking for.

Same thing applies here. The comic who made you this offer is not going to risk his on-stage success just to be nice to you. He knows what is going to work.

I apologize if I missed it, but Neil Brennan has been on a few of my podcast feeds, and before I listened to them, I wanted to watch his recently released Netflix special.

Just finished.

That is, easily, one of the best sets I've seen in the last 10 years. Fucking. Amazing.

Run, don't walk. Innovative format, but beyond that just so well-crafted and put together

Fuck.

I'll be watching that again this weekend.

This new Aziz stand up is awesome. There's real skill in the way he sets up and executes his jokes in this one. He involves the audience in the awkwardness and it's incredible.

I haven't watched it yet, probably will sometime fairly soon, but I am having a hard time of thinking of a scenario where I care about HIS pain. The only one i can think of is if it turned out she was completely trying to do him in, but I feel like I would have heard that at some point?

Are you talking about 3 mics, or is there a newer one? 3 mics was really unique, and hit home in a hard way. Neal Brennan is one of the most brilliant and funny guys out there.
