ANTI-SEMITE!!!!

I kid.

But that is so wrong.

Around the corner from my house.

Crunchy and delicious.

And In Montreal

Light and fluffy.

Yeah, this is still upsetting me. If you like bread and claim bagels can't be great, you've just only had shitty bagels.

Literally my number one complaint about living in Las Vegas, worse than the heat or the moprons who live here or anything else is that it's almost impossible to find good bread/rolls, etc. Basically any bread-like substance here sucks somehow, even in the bakeries. Nothing like the east coast or the midwest.

It is astounding to me when I visit my sister and her family in DC that the only bagels they have are disgusting.

Put it this way, grocery store bagels are to good bagels what Bud Light is to a fine craft beer.

In my defense, on the rare occasions I've been coaxed into trying a bagel, I've been assured they were "the best in town." Maybe I just need to move... ;-)

This is a big issue. Bagels, as much or more than anything, seem to suffer from an unusually high "my favorite" equals "best" problem.

Yeah, I was wondering, unless they are stale or something, how bad can a "bad bagel" be? At worst, it's round bread.

It's not quite your standard bread, though, is it? It's oddly dense, and any I've tried have a flavor I don't quite care for.

Then again, my taste in bread runs to a basic loaf of plain white, so perhaps I am not the best to judge.

Bagels are boiled, then baked. It's part of what makes them dense, compared to most bread.

Pretty reasonable for someone who likes fluffy/airy bread to not dig bagels.

I mean, fuck those people, we can't be friends. But I can see it.

If by butter you mean cream cheese and by herring you mean lox or smoked whitefish, I agree.

Easily interchangeable in this scenario. A win-win-win situation.

Didn't know what this was and googled. The first mention is of it used in a Reuben bagel sandwich.

Doubtful. Never heard the term "black Russian," but those babies are all over the place in my hood.

A classic that some bagel places here sell is a rye bagel. A bit sour, caraway seeds... fantastic.

German billionaire family that owns Einstein Bros. Bagels admits Nazi past

Early donors to the Nazi Party, employers of slaves etc., etc.

Want to boycott?

In addition to those "bagels," they own pieces of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Panera Bread, Pret a Manger, Stumptown Peet’s Coffee, Keurig Green Mountain and Dr Pepper-Snapple.

And they are worth $40 billion or so.

Can I just be a bagel polygamist and say I like them all? As to the schmear (still can't believe I've only known about that word in the last few years) I'm just not into anything vegetable and cream cheese related though I'll still eat it. All the others seem really good.

Anti-salt bagel, just so we can "hear both sides", but I also take 90% of the salt off a pretzel so I'm not the best judge here.
