Could it be one charge for the anesthesiologist and one for the drugs? Or does it not work like that?
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I suppose. I don't do bullshit like that (of course), but it has been several years since I worked in a surgicenter or hospital, and such shenanigans are possible, even likely. World has changed.

In a couple of days, they are (very likely) going to close a big hospital in Manhattan, Beth Israel. The third of four hospitals south of 17th Street to shutter in about ten years. This one lost ~$90 million each of the last two years, after ~$20 million annual loss before that (coincided with a merger/hostile takeover by Mount Sinai, so in part there is likely shady accounting.

The point is, this takeover, strip of assets, play accounting games, shut down, dump debt, sell the real estate is the typical game plan of the vulture private equity games from private industry (best practiced by the last GOP presidential nominee), brought to essential health and medical care for a huge chunk of the wealthiest city in America. Of course, the medical school attached to Mount Sinai is vanity branded the "Icann School of Medicine." Also the Icann school of destroying a vital hospital that has served the community for over 100 years, because Free Markets!

And the point is, such money grabbing bullshit is now at the top, and at the bottom (J-Lo's hospital bill) and everywhere in between of this industry. Just like any other industry. Except for the life and death, pain and suffering part.

That's OK, you can always get rushed to another hospital 3 or 4 miles away. Should just add a minute or two to the ambulance ride.

Yeah, Bellevue ER traffic increased about 20% after St. Vincents closed. This will make it an even tougher place to work.

Kicked something this morning, then noticed my foot felt sticky later, but I had on socks and slides and just thought I stepped in water.

Had my first USTA Mixed match of the season yesterday. Up 6-1, 5-0, serving at match point, 40-30. Hit a perfect ace down the middle that landed right on the T and dude called it wide. I wasn't going to say anything obviously we were going to win anyway.

Very next serve at deuce...SNAP! Ruptured achilles. People heard it on the court over.

The sound is scary as fuck but the initial scathing, writhing pain only lasted about 2 minutes. Once they were able to cast it in the right position, not bad at all.

I asked the ortho this morning how he can be sure without an MRI. He said, "I'm grabbing where your Achilles is supposed to be and it's not there. It's just mush."

One of my co-workers did that a few years back. Wheeled around for a good bit of time. I always get nervous as I age and feel tightness in my Achilles. Especially after running or soccer. Recovery looks like no fun. Good luck.
