I enjoyed it very much for no other reason than it was believable they would drive to those places in the time it would say they would drive to those places. So many times filmmakers don't realize how implausible they treat travel in Texas. No Country For Old Men was pretty bad, but that one death penalty movie with Kevin Spacey was just awful.

Curious what your specific beefs were with the drive times or travel inconsistencies in No Country For Old Men. Not saying you're wrong. You know Texas a lot better than I do, but I don't seem to remember anything that was especially egregious if you assume for example that it would have/probably really did take Ed Tom Bell six hours to drive to El Paso to find that Moss had been killed, etc.

I may need to watch the movie again to see what was implied about the timeframe, but it seems like they made it from places like Eagle Pass and Del Rio to El Paso and Houston in obscenely quick amount of time. Of course, I'm also assuming they didn't fly for some reason.

But thinking back to the other one (David Gale?), there were literal time deadlines where they're traveling between Houston/Austin/Huntsville via car in impossible quickness.

Watched marriage story before the UK game. Pretty great performances by Johannson and Driver but it just didn’t stick the landing. Solid but not as good as others I’ve seen so far.

Borg vs McEnroe last night. Liked it. Shia LaBeouf as Mac was a bit strange but liked Prof. Gerald Lambeau as Borg's coach. Good acting and anchoring it on Borg going for 5 at Wimbledon really made it work. Guy who played Connors...looked nothing like him. Also not sure the Studio 54 scene added anything.

Loved The VVitch so that has been on my radar. Hoping it pops up on 'flix or Prime.

Judy was pretty good. I think I was expecting a more expansive story but it was solid.

I’ve seen an absurd amount of movies. Even paid more most them. I’ve got my picks and then the ones that will probably win. Parasite was easily the best movie I saw but I do think 1917 will win. It was pretty well done as well.

Watched Parasite on TH, saw 1917 yesterday. The only "big" movie I haven't seen is Lil Women, which is a damn shame, because we wanted to see it but ran out of time.

I agree with Mr. Bond. Parasite is probably the coolest movie I've seen in the last 3 years or so, but 1917 is an epic Hollywood movie and I think it's going to take it home.

I actually now want to see the movie, because I had seen the documentary and sort of thought the movie was going to be a lame retread.

I don't think they did a very good job of selling the movie, if someone like me (seeks out lots of movies) had no idea what the actual plot was.

That's one of the very few movies (the feature film, not the documentary) I watched last year, and it's excellent. Highly recommended.

If you liked Parasite (the 2019 Cannes winner) you may also like Shoplifters (the 2018 Cannes winner).
Very similar premise of the poor trying to scheme their way to a better life.

It lost the Oscar Foreign Film award to Roma.

Osamu and Shota routinely shoplift goods, using a system of hand signals to communicate. Osamu tells Shota it is fine to steal things that have not been sold, as they do not belong to anyone. One especially cold night, they see Yuri, a neighborhood girl they regularly observe locked out on an apartment balcony. They bring her to their home, intending to only have her stay for dinner, but choose not to return her after finding evidence of abuse.

I watched it last night. Quite the movie. Surprising but very deserving that it cleaned up at the Oscars, as it really is a very unique and powerful film. Won’t say more to avoid spoilers but the suspense in some of the scenes during the second half was off the charts.

Found out last night that a woman I went to High School with won an Oscar Sunday for Art Direction on 'Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood". She didn't get to go up on stage (I guess only certain people are allowed to go up to the Podium on the tech awards), but she posted a picture of her statue on FB.

As a follower of Asian films, there are a ton of movies like this, talking about social issues. I find it amusing that the Oscars has only discovered Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2000 and Parasite 2020. Like there are no other Asian films before or after. Let's see what happens in 2040.

In the modern era, only one other Asian film has one the Foreign Film Oscar besides these two. Departures in 2008, which was a great movie about the social taboos of running a funeral home.

Crouching Tiger wasn't even the best Asian film of 2000. That would be this one, one of the better movies I've ever seen in any language.

Saw Birds of Prey last night. It's...enjoyable? I liked it but there are a few caveats:

1) You have to be down with chicks beating the ever living shit out of a bunch of dudes.
2) Margo is mostly fantastic as Harley, the movie breaks the 4th wall a lot with a lot of winks and nods so you feel like you are in on the joke, but also aware of how absurd it is. This will probably make or break the movie for most people, if they are into it, it will be a decent movie, if they aren't, it will royally fucking suck.
3) Ewan is a good actor, his character is not great. As is true in a lot of hero movies, the villain almost matters more than the hero.
4) There are not nearly enough poop jokes.

Snowpiercer is really good. One of the times when the movie is actually better than the book/graphic novel it is based on (but the 2nd and 3rd books are not as good as the 1st which the movie is driven by).
