It took a sweet young foreign gun
This lazy life is short
Something for nothing always ending
With a bad report

Dirty was the daybreak
Sudden was the change
In such a silent place as this
Beyond the rifle range

So where to now St. Peter
If it's true I'm in your hands
I may not be a Christian
But I've done all one man can
I understand I'm on the road
Where all that was is gone
So where to now St. Peter
Show me which road I'm on
Which road I'm on

I took myself a blue canoe
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

Those days are gone forever
Over a long time ago
Oh yeah…

Then I learned to play some lead guitar, I was underage in this funky bar
And I stepped outside to smoke myself a J
When I come back to the room, everybody just seemed to move
And I turned my amp up loud and I began to play

It was late in the evening, and I blew that room away!!!!

I like the 2 or 3 songs I've heard from Paul Simon's new album.

One starts with a line that seems like a callback to this:

For (holy shit, 23!) years, I thought the chorus was:
And I said "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
She said "I think I remember the film
And as I recall, I think we both kinda liked it"
And I said "Well, that's one thing we've got"
The song ended up on my iPod (I think it might have been the Swamp's fault) and I heard it last week, and it turns out the chorus is:
And I said "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
She said "I think I remember the film
And as I recall, I think we both kinda liked it"
And I said "Well, that's THE one thing we've got"
Whoa! That changes the whole song, right? In my original version, BaT's was something to build upon, and their relationship seemed to have a chance. In the real version, it's all they have. They're done! Sad!

(sorry about cross-posting this to FB, but I'm shattered over here)

And Ryan is right on the age of the song. The list of facts under the first hit for the song on google (under the video) says 1993, but that's wrong.

Just played it on Radio Paradise

Roland searched the continent
For the man who'd done him in
He found him in Mombassa
In a bar room drinkin' Gin
Roland aimed his Thompson Gun
He didn't say a word
But he blew Van Owen's body
From there to Johanasburg.

I think the back up singers on that song were Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt.

I wonder if his son feels the same way. In "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", his son tells a story about how Warren told him unequivocally that in the event of his passing, he needed him to go into his home and clear out all adult videos and other paraphernalia that might otherwise be unbecoming to polite society (I'm generalizing here)..His son fulfilled his wish, and in one of the boxes was a note to press 'play' on the VCR.

It was a video of his dad having sex with some waitress (her ideology is unknown).

I said "I'm sorry baby I'm leaving you tonight
I found someone new, he's waitin' in the car outside"
Ah honey how could you do it
We swore each other everlasting love
She said "well yeah I know but when we did;
There was one thing
we weren't really thinking of

And that's money
Money changes everything
She said money, money changes everything
We think we know what we're doin'
We don't pull the strings
It's all in the past now
Money changes everything"

Just heard this on the radio. No, not her version (which is great, and I love it, I think it is her best song,) but the original

Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

Take it in a bottle, 40, quart, or can
Drink it like a madman yes I do

Poets priests and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no-one's jamming their transmission

Cause when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you

When I was young love was fun and I was so happy
I looked so good and I dressed so snappy
Two-tone shoes on my feet big old smile on my face
As I moved and grooved all over the place
Now I'm down in the heels my complexion is bad
'Cause my love life is sadder than sad

And when I write the book about my love
It'll be a pop publication, tougher than tough
When I get down on the pages all I missed
It will shoot to the top of the best-sellers list

I'm lookin' for a bitch to spend the night
Do the crazy thing while I fuck all night
I make her do things like nothing before
And when I'm done, she'll always be sore
From the things I do when I'm fuckin'
And when I'm tired, the bitches are suckin'
A double team with a friend of mine
Luke's in front and I'm behind
Just ridin' you like a pony
While you suck my dick, makin' me horny
Then all of a sudden we'll switch positions
Prop your ass up and freak the pushin'
And when I cum, you'll hear me roar
I'll treat any bitch like a whore
Cause it's the way I like to fuck
It's face down and ass up

RIP.

You just kinda wasted

That is great. Speaking of precious time, this one isn't as good, but I like it, too.

Seems like yesterday I was here
Dreamin' my life away and drinkin' beer
Staying up till dawn strummin' on guitars
Sleepin' all day long just like the big rock stars
Barely livin' on money from tip jars

I had a little place just up the block
Had me a French girlfriend I loved the way she talked
We spent our afternoons watchin' the TV
Findin' things to do that we could do for free
When we split up she said you don't do enough for me

I am guilty of a dreadful selfish crime
I had robbed myself of all my precious time

Had my first gig here in the neighborhood
We had a little band I thought was good
Hocked my old shotgun bought a used P.A.
We got a quart of rum drank it all that day
When the big gig come we were just to drunk to play

I am guilty of a dreadful selfish crime
I had robbed myself of all my precious time

Sometimes I can't believe those days are gone
Most of my friends back then have moved along
One's in Hollywood one's a millionaire
Some are gone for good some still livin' here
Me I'm just the same lost in a crowd
Lookin' for the rain in a thunder cloud
I have moved around but it don't matter though
One thing I have found there are just two ways to go
It all comes down to livin' fast or dyin' slow

I am guilty of a dreadful selfish crime
I had robbed myself of all my precious time

Come on all of you big strong men
Uncle Sam needs your help again
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun!

Well, it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn
The next stop is Vietnam
And it's five, six, seven
Open up the pearly gates
Well, there ain't no time
To wonder why?
Whoopie! we're all gonna die

Come on Wall Street don't be slow, why man this war is a go-go
There's plenty good money to be made
Supplying the army with the tools of its trade
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb
They drop it on the Viet Cong

Well come on generals, let's move fast
Your big chance is here at last
Gotta go out and get those reds
'Cause the only good commie is the one that's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come

Well come on mothers throughout the land
Pack your boys off to Vietnam
Come on fathers don't hesitate
Send your sons off before it's too late
Be the first ones on your block
To have your boy come home in a box

Well, it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn
The next stop is Vietnam
And it's five, six, seven
Open up the pearly gates
Well, I ain't got time
To wonder why?
Whoopie! I'm gonna die
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

Those days are gone forever
Over a long time ago

You know that feeling when you hear a great song for the first time in years? Having that right now.
They say that money
Can't buy love in this world
But it'll get you a half-pound of cocaine
And a sixteen-year-old girl
And a great big long limousine
On a hot September night
Now that may not be love but it is all right
