Is that Johnnie Drama? That is fantastic. I never wanted a tattoo before, but that is going across most of my back.

Is getting a tatto in the same place as (or in place of) a wedding ring a thing?

It was the first time I had seen the practice being done in person.

Interesting. So, what is the significance of the 4 of spades? (and the heart?)

That is amazing work. Not sure why anyone would want that permanently, but damn good art work.

Getting a tattoo lazered is as bad as you've heard, but what's worse is the ensuing blisters and the skin recovering from, effectively, a hardcore burn.

So I'm going to get some ink on my left bicep.
Already cleared it with the artist (not sure I was legally required to do that, but whatever. He even offered to send me a higher res shot of it for the artist)..
Am thinking about modifying the art so that there is some green leaves in the tree branches, and maybe tint the glass over the dial blue. Or green. But I've got blue eyes. Fucking decisions man.

The circumference of my bicep is only 16", so figure from side to side, 9-10"?

That looks really, really cool.
Is your artist good at those types of tattoos? That is something I've learned through my research and questioning. A tattoo like that can go in various directions. It could be black, black and gray, clockwork..etc. It's super important to make sure it's in the artist's abilities.
I'm at the stage where I choose the style and find the artists based on that.
Regardless, I like it. Where'd you get the idea?

I'm a hippie. And I'm a dabbler (no, not a cosplayer) in Steampunk.
I agree with you on making sure the texture of the piece can be represented well. I'm thinking something like bronze, but the darker parts have an oil-rubbed look. The light areas in the gears would probably be more of a mustard (the offset color in the oil-rubbed bronze (or copper) palette)..
Edit: I'm a huge fan of album cover artwork, and I suspect so is the guy who made this.
Edit2: The tree will look natural, and not black and white. SO maybe oil-rubbed bronze isn't the right look for the mechanism? Tough to visualize without the means to change up it up some..

If you have an artist you should link him here.
Re: "You know that's permanent, right?" - The Tattoo Thread
This is the guy who did the work, but this particular piece is not on his site.
I reached out to him earlier, and he verified that yes, it's his work. You can see the site logo on the bottom right corner..

Or maybe I'm overthinking this and I should just get the highest res shot to the tat-artist (not the originally posted b&w). I mean, I'm a creative myself, and one of the ways to get my ass in gear is to get me to buy in with my own passion.
Yeah.

Re: "You know that's permanent, right?" - The Tattoo Thread
This evening, Mrs. Sabo and I went to the annual dinner for the local genealogy society. (Mrs. Sabo is a member.) While waiting for dinner, I asked a 60s-ish woman at our table about a pretty new tattoo she had on her left forearm, mostly because I didn't expect a 60s-ish woman to have fresh ink. She showed me the tattoo, which has a "In Loving Memory Of" banner at the top, and then a tombstone that says "417".
She told me she recently toured a state hospital near Toledo, and while there she learned about a pair of stillborn twin sisters who were buried in the cemetery at the hospital. The stillborn infants had no names, and no known living relatives, and it struck her that someone should memorialize them. So, she decided to do it herself, and as she put it, "I now know their story, and now you do, too."

Local artists will be on a Spike show about tattoo artists. I have none, but have considered in the past. Nothing against it, but my tastes swing wildly, and I'm easily embarrassed by the things I like. Can't think of anything I'd like enough to want to have on me forever.
