Paisley: "Despite acknowledging that I'm actually aware of the pain this symbol I like to wear can cause you, thus negating my claims of accidental racism, I want to continue wearing it. In return, I won't judge you for wearing a completely inoffensive article of clothing that a lot of white people wear too."

This thread has already inspired far too much discourse on its subject.

I like how Rembert Browne put it:
This song will have its intended purpose, bringing people together, only if people of all races band together to make fun of Brad Paisley and LL Cool J.

Exactly. The racism is coming from the white side in both sides of the story. That is the issue here. Paisley is knowingly wearing a symbol of racism and White Supremacy and hurt that he may be judged as a racist, which he believes that he isn't. In LL's lyrics, he is apologizing for doing nothing wrong and white racists judging him. That is what is wrong with the song. It is racist to make the black guy apologize for his completely neutral attire and change his clothes because nervous White people are scared of a Black guy wearing sagging jeans and a gold chain. If gold chains were somehow a symbol of Black oppression over Whites for 350 years, we'd have an equivalency.

I don't think they're trying to equate gold chains & saggy pants with black on white oppression. They're just going with the stereotypes. White guy in rebel flag shirt = racist vs. black guy in baggies and chains = gangbanger. Both are saying I won't judge your book by it's cover if you won't judge mine. The stereotypes don't have be to be exactly equivalent for the meaning behind it to work.

That said, it's a typical shitty country song with some rap thrown in as some lame hippity hop crossover attempt.

No it doesn't and you're missing Syb's point. The confederate flag is a very real racist symbol. Bandanas and gold chains are very real nothing symbols, only villified by racist white people scared of black "thugs". That equivocation is easily in the top 20 things wrong with the song.

People probably just love racism and the perception that the song goes against that hinders racism's progress. Hence, taken down.

But hey, Nelly is in a rap remix of a country song without racial commentary!

Apparently Youtube has the song but no video, although I did see this Seth Meyers Weekend Update bit:

BTW, tried to listen to the other Paisley song Bronto left a vague reference as if we were supposed to know any Brad Paisley songs. And oh man, it is a really horrendous song. How is that guy a star? He is the pop-country equivalent of The Big Band Theory.

He’s kind of a kitschy guy. Lot of songs just with no real point. But fucking hell he’s a tremendous guitar player. One of the best of the big stars in terms of playability. On the Vince Gill Keith urban level for the guys that had crossover appeal. He can fucking shred.

I’ll put it this way. He’s probably a far superior technical guitar player than Jason Isbell. And Jason is awesome. The margins are so close at that level.

AB - I know Vince Gill can shred. Is Keith Urban a good guitarist too?

And if you asked me who recalled an 8 year old thread, I would have bet all my chips on Rass. And won.

I don’t know how much of his lyrics he writes actually. But he is generally not very deep.

Better than this has a sexist moment but it’s kinda fun. I don’t consider him bro country but he has some songs that could be confused for it.

I never knew anything about Jason Aldean prior to the Mandalay Bay shooting, and then he opened SNL a few days later. He seemed from what I can tell to be at least an alright guy and gave him the benefit of the doubt.

But saying people are gonna take our guns so don’t try it? That’s at very least tone-deaf as shit.
