The towns on either end of our island, Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle, have gotten 35 and 29 inches of rain so far. It boggles the mind.

We've vacationed all over that area and we've also spent a long weekend in New Bern where they set up shop to show the storm surge throughout the last 2 days.

Just weird to recognize actual houses and stuff. Particularly where MSNBC was set up at Carolina Beach, that was RIGHT where we rented a couple of years ago.

Strange storm tonight. Didn't approach until after dark, and just started thundering now. The lightning lights up our bedroom, but the thunder doesn't come for many seconds and then lasts an especially long time.

It is!

3rd straight day of rain - had to cancel today's round as the course is waterlogged.

If it was May, I wouldn't care, but there are maybe 4 or 5 rounds left this year...

It's very warm and humid today. I think it's supposed to get into the upper 80s for the next couple of days and then drop into the low 50s for a week. Glad I got most of my yard work done this year.

Another horrible fire in northern California. The small town of Paradise, CA (near Chico) was completely burned to a crisp.
Sacramento Bee wrote:Devastated by the Camp Fire, which had burned more than 70,000 acres as of Friday with 5 percent containment reported by Cal Fire, the town of Paradise in Northern California has by many accounts been mostly destroyed.

An estimated 2,000 structures have been leveled, Cal Fire said Friday morning, many of them homes. With five fatalities confirmed Friday by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the Camp Fire is already one of the 20 deadliest fires on record in California history.

All five victims perished on a single street in Paradise, trapped in vehicles as they tried to escape the blaze, officials said.

Before this week’s tragic events, the Butte County community of Paradise, six miles east of Chico city limits, was a fairly quiet place. It had just under 27,000 residents as of the 2010 census.
So, our fucking Moron-in-Chief is still butthurt that most California voters don't support him. So, what does he have to say?

The horror in the Paraside, CA fire is hard to fully wrap my head around.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/california- ... 386493.php

There are around 42 confirmed dead, and still 200+ missing. And there is this problem with trying to determine how many of that missing are no longer with us on this earth:

It's so fucking sad. We still a haze of smoke over the Bay Area to remind us every day. I've met several people with a connection to that little town. The NextDoor app is full of people trying to raise money for devastated people they know. Watched the tv news yesterday afternoon and they mentioned that their weatherman is from Paradise, CA. He got choked up after that.

Left at 3:45 to get my youngest from daycare, got a half a mile in an hour and 10 minutes but was stuck where I couldn't just pull over or turn around so I ditched my car in the HS parking lot, walked half a mile to the daycare then carried my not-quite 4 year old most of the mile home. There are still cars just sitting on almost every through street and any decent inclines are more or less unpassable so people who live on either side of the train tracks can't cross because they're all dips. Very excited for the Facebook people who would have flipped out if schools were dismissed pre-snow complain that schools weren't dismissed until the snow had already started.

I’m a provider. Brought a couple of pies home.

According to the cops also waiting for dinner, there were 2 separate tractor trailers jack knifed on the main road that bisects town.

First thing I heard when my father-in-law got to the garage last night too. And no because knowing the last snowfall is way trickier than mowing and there's no way I'm remembering AND making the effort in the spring once I'm sure. I sprayed roughly 20 cans of starter fluid onto the spark plug last night to little success. YouTube tells me the carburetor is probably jammed up.

At least the snow doesn't weigh 300 pound per square inch and it's not going to be 20 degrees for a week and the plow doesn't pack 30 feet at the end of the driveway and we're not away this weekend
