I had seen countless posts on Facebook complaining about the rain in Michigan, but I guess it really is pretty bad. This is Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo:

Not surprised you felt it. Looks like the epicenter was north of Barstow in Death Valley.

Two earthquakes in two days and I’m officially over it now. There was an aftershock from yesterday but it was much stronger in Vegas. We had a bunch of water shaken out of the pool.

Officially blaming the quake for the fact that I tripped over my own feet on the dance floor at a wedding in Malibu earlier tonight.

Yeah, initial estimate from USGS turned out to be way off. We had quite a bit of water get shaken out of our pool. Know you've felt them before lots of times of course, but like most things, it's funny how much earthquakes are really not like the movies. It's not violent shaking or even really shaking at all, it's like your house and everything in it (in fact literally everything on the crust of the earth near you) is sitting on an ocean wave that just keeps rolling underneath you for however long the quake lasts. Even 200 miles away, it's unsettling and I don't see how anyone would ever get used to it or be blasé about it.

Unsettling is the proper word. We were outside at a friend's house and got kids out and away from house. I guess it was stronger but immediately understanding what was happening gave it a heightened sense of danger. I second the notion of being over it.

Yesterday was a zoo in DC. Baseball field is 1/4 mile from my house. The road they show was my primary way to commute to work (explains why it was blocked this morning).

It's like South carolina here this week.

Luckily, the family and I are heading to Canmore and banff on the weekend. A week of that mountain air... I can almost smell it.

My buddy in DC area was complaining about that. It’s perfect here (summer wise). 105 and no humidity. I’ll take this every day until September.

Just read a near breathless article about the "blazing Southwest temps" for today and tomorrow. It is supposed to reach a high of 109 today and 110 tomorrow here in town. Don't get me wrong, that is hot. The issue is our average high for these two days is 103. If your average high is 80 today and you hit 86, is that worth a news story? There are plenty of reasons to sound climate alarms, this is not one of them.

Banff is on the family vacation bucket list. Ever since we skied Whistler the kids have clamored to head out that way. (We watched some travel show while in Whistler that featured Banff, coincidentally.)

Banff is great. I've been there a couple times. Lake Louise and Morain Lake are beautiful. The hike from Lake Louise to the Teahouse up the hill is worth doing.

Nothing but love for the Rockies. (Even if the town of Banff itself is quite kitschy )

July 2019 was the hottest month in the Earth's history (well, since humans have been able to record temperature at least, to be more accurate).

So.fucking.wet.here.this.week.

The goddamned frogs croaking, and thunder, kept me up from about 3:30 a.m. this morning. On top of that, they're building another phase (100 or so houses) in my neighborhood, so all the sewer lines aren't draining like they should.

The Wawa on Gandy referenced in that tweet must be in Pinellas. The one near the corner of Dale Mabry isn't finished yet, and has no grass around it.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.

Top half of the maple tree in my front yard just sort of broke off. Blocking my drive way and like 1/2 the street. Luckily I’m working from home tomorrow and pulled my car completely into the driveway and didn’t park on the street right under it.

Sounds like DPW agrees it’s close enough to the street to be the town’s responsibility.

I genuinely came on here to ask if you were OK. been seeing all of the pictures. I haven't heard anything from around Katy, because they gave me the day off. Haven't seen the area, but hope yall are good. I'm laid in the house, writing terrible jokes, watching tv, plenty of food and with lights, on a non flooded street. Couldn't be better really.

I'm at the office across from the Waterwall on Post Oak and it's fucked up. It's going to take a while to get home. Not sure what it's like out in Katy, but I haven't seen much on Facebook. Katy ISD still has afterschool high school activities scheduled.
