Is Yacht Rock a specifically American phenomenon?

Anyone wanna see a 6 and a half minute version of Rosanna with a full orchestra? Of course you do.

The new Beatles channel, premiering later this month on channel 18, sounds pretty permanent and has me a bit worried about my smooth summer companion.

I liked the new bumper I heard yesterday, "welcome to SiriusXM Yacht Rock, where the morals are loose and maritime laws are looser" (or something like that) with this playing in the background:

Here's my opinion.

Michael McDonald(obvs)
Kenny Loggins
Christopher Cross
Rupert Holmes (who I hate but I gotta be realistic)

I'll more or less not argue the first three guys.
Upon a year or so of reflection and prayer I'm gonna amend this to:

I'm probably putting Gordon Lightfoot in my 4th spot. Or maybe Ambrosia.

I got jumped. I love Gordo, don't think he qualifies. I'm assuming we're doing solo artists. If not may need to rethink all four slots, and yeah, Ambrosia is smoooooooth.

Fourth one is tough. Steal Away is a personal alltime fave, but Dupree needs another hit. He plays Hot Rod Hearts as his second song in his allotted stage time at the Yacht Rock revue concerts, but I can't recall hearing that on the radio. Would like to see more than one hit (that hurts Rupert, too, because Answering Machine is dumb).

For Scaggs, Lowdown is a classic of the genre. I guess Jojo qualifies as YR, too (I know S/XM plays it, but I obviously take issue with some of their choices).

It might be a little too rocking for some, but I think Thunder Island is a perfect YR song, but again does Jay Ferguson have another hit?

One guy who does get multiple tracks played is Bertie Higgins, but I'm not he's a match in stature with the others we have agreed on.

My GF got a new car last weekend, and it came with XM radio for a year, so I programmed in Yacht Rock for her.

Just how many times a day does "Sailing" by Christopher Cross get played?

Lido Shuffle for Boz too. It's a little peppier than a lot of YR songs, but still qualifies.

I also took into account that he's basically been making YR songs for his entire career, which I think you have to give him points for.
