In the sense that any rap song that samples Michael McDonald would qualify, sure.

I think I agree? In large part because it doesn’t just sample but just lets it run through the entire song. And their personal style of delivery is so laid back.
The flugelhorn gets all of the attention but the guitar solo in Feels So Good is pretty epic.

Man, last summer must have SUCKED for some reason.
He has a guest DJ spot on The Bridge today. Speaking of last summer sucking, hopefully he's recovered from having COVID.

also the answer to a great/obscure classic rock question:
Who was the only person to fill in for Ritchie Blackmore on guitar for a live Deep Purple gig?
(nobody would ever guess Chris Cross but 'tis true...)

This was my thought too. Jumped from Corona to a guest DJ spot.

When a song by Christopher Cross has back-up vocals from Michael McDonald, it becomes the de facto most yacht rock-y song of all time, right? I think I’m right.

That image raises an interesting challenge. Christopher Cross wrote a song that is the foundation of the entire genre. Kenny Loggins perfected the genre. Michael McDonald is the man I want to be. I am so torn.

Fuck Kenny Loggins
Marry Christopher Cross
Kill Michael McDonald

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this guy
Was debating whether to post this here or the vacation thread. Glad I checked here.
Yesterday I spent $7 on the Michael McDonald "Ultimate Collection" greatest hits CD because I needed the single version of Sweet Freedom for my vacation mix CD. That version is unavailable for purchase on its own and is about 3 minutes shorter than the version (from the Running Scared soundtrack) which can be bought as a standalone. Giving Bezos $7 got me immediate access to the MP3s, but seems like a steal anyway for that many smooth classics.

It's a late-summer tradition. Like shitting on the Bengals in the pre-season.

That's a good tradition. I guess both are.
Though both dated, perhaps?
Eh. Both classic and a happy nostalgia I suppose. I have spent most the last week contemplating age and the passage of time and the end of all things - which does generally correspond with Bengals camp. It's good to have a rhythm to life.

BTW Arthur’s Theme isn’t on the playlist but Sailing is a mainstay if not the centerpiece.

Yacht Rock is gone from channels available in the car. Welcome October by listening to the Billy Joel channel?
A couple of quick notes now that the season is over:
Most unfortunate/inappropriate additions to the rotation this summer:
2. Fleetwood Mac (they've played Dreams in past years but really went all-in this summer)
1. Pre-Michael McDonald Doobies
Song that I felt like I heard every time I turned on the channel:
Moonlight Feels Right - Starbuck

Been listening to a lot of Steely Dan lately.

Went through the XM channels yesterday to update my favorites...turns out there is a Yacht Rock Deep Cuts available on the app. Currently playing Will It Last by Kenny Loggins. Not quite Mariana Trench level deep but it's been playing a bunch of stuff I've never heard or haven't heard in about 30 years.

I’ll search that out, though I seem to have an issue when I play those app only stations on my smart speakers. They consistently cut out after 10 or 15 minutes, then I get annoyed and give up on them.
