College track coach stole explicit photos from female athletes’ phones, prosecutors say
Whenever women on Northeastern University’s track and field team walked up to the starting line during practices or competitions, prosecutors said, coach Steve Waithe had a request: to turn over their cellphones.
He needed the phones, he allegedly told the women, so he could record their form.
Instead, authorities said, the coach scrolled through their photos and forwarded explicit images to himself. Then, he allegedly created fake social media profiles to try to trick the women into sending him more private photos.
