The most logical explanation given his history with the victims. The charges bear that out - Two first degree charges because the crown believes he went there with the intention to kill the grandparents. A second degree charge for the child, who was simply on a sleepover on the wrong night.

Well, they sold it. For $130 dollars. They even included my favorite apology statement: "again, we deeply regret that this item was perceived negatively." That isn't an apology, and shows you don't acknowledge doing something wrong or in poor taste. All that says is we are upset that this might hurt our bottom line.

For those who didn't click, they are selling a "vintage" Kent State shirt complete with fake blood spatterings and bullet holes. This is rich: "it was never our intention to allude to the tragic events that took place at Kent State in 1970 and we are extremely saddened that this item was perceived as such. The one-of-a-kind item was purchased as part of our sun-faded vintage collection. There is no blood on this shirt nor has this item been altered in any way. The red stains are discoloration from the original shade of the shirt and the holes are from natural wear and fray."

Right. It is unimaginable that anyone could perceive that as fake blood.

Whenever I checked the headlines on Google News, I would see this story, accompanied by the man's mug shot. Mentally unstable. Unlikeable face. Awful story, but easy enough to brush it off when you're skimming headlines. Just checked Google News again, and they have a photo of the girl. Wearing some sort of princess costume, with a tiara. I didn't want to see this girl. This is crushing. Why does this happen? This kind of story just destroys me.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot in the Autism community. I had to call the police the other day because a parent who called us said "my kids would be better off dead". I'm sure she didn't mean it, I get the frustration, but I wasn't taking that chance.

An 11 year old girl with leukemia that was being successfully treated in hospital was pulled out to undergo a regimen of quackery, and because she is a member of a First Nation, the government kind of backed off and let her mother and members of her tribe grandstand and ultimately take her out of the hospital.

They announced several months ago that she was cancer free.

Sadly, they were lying.

Makayla, who suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, stopped chemotherapy in May because of the side effects of the drug. She had told her parents, Ken and Sonya Sault, who are pastors, that Christ had appeared in her hospital room to tell her she was healed.

. . . Mr. LaForme said her parents are holding up well considering their loss and do not regret taking Makayla off chemotherapy.

“From Day One they have never regretted the decision,” he said. “As a matter of fact, they wish that they had never even gone through the chemo in the first place.”

This is actually quite common in cases of a child dying from medical neglect over religious quackery. The parents are almost always free of remorse.

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — Trucker Kevin Kimmel is a father and grandfather. He says several things about a RV parked in the Pilot Truck lot in New Kent caught his attention. The biggest red flag was catching a glimpse of a distraught looking girl who abruptly disappeared behind a black curtain, that’s when he quickly called police.

“I only learned the gruesome details through the news,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel was inside his rig, parked behind the Pilot station. A couple of doors down he notices suspicious activity in the RV.

“Saw what looked like a young girl looking out the window, the black drapes didn’t make it look like a families’ RV, you know,” Kimmel said. “I saw a guy come up and knock on the door then go inside the Pilot–then quickly came back and knocked again, all of the sudden the thing was rocking and rolling.”

Kimmel, a veteran trucker, said it was a no brainer what was going on, so he dialed deputies.

“When I saw the young girl’s face, I said that’s not going to happen, I’ve got daughters and granddaughters.”

Inside the RV, investigators found a couple from Iowa and a young woman who looks disheveled and malnourished.

Aldair Hodza and Laura Sorenson were arrested and are now charged with a federal crime of sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion.

According to an affidavit, the victim’s feet had puncture wounds on top consistent with nails hammered into her flesh and numerous burns on her abdomen, groin and back consistent with being struck and stamped with a hot metal key.

“I’m just happy I helped her,” Kimmel said.

They travel highways, sometimes hundreds of miles per day, and Kimmel said he has a habit of being vigilant; that January day his gut instinct was a life saver

“He saved that girls life and that’s awesome,” said a fellow trucker. “I have two kids at home man and if somebody messed with them I’d want someone to call the cops and tell me.”

But did a young woman who did something trivial that millions of young women have done with no great side-effects deserve to become the butt of a joke and stereotyped as an empty-headed bimbo by most of the people she would meet for the rest of her life? This is a personal tragedy. And it's something of an ideal case, taken to a very high level, of what so many young people have to deal with today -- magnified by the internet -- when they do something that doesn't fit with the narrow mores of their social group.
