One of my "in 50 years" predictions is that people will look back at the way we treated mentally ill people who committed crimes, even the most horrific ones like Sandy Hook, with horror.

I really like Mister D's outlook, and I think when science can help us identify and understand mental disorders, people will have a different perspective. I think we are already starting to see it former football players we thought were violent assholes, then learn CTE has damaged their brains. Without the ability to accurately or easily diagnose (beyond psychiatrists guessing) mental disorders, we chalk it up to the people being horrible or evil. If we can point to a gene or brain scan that shows a disease, people will view the mentally ill as having a disease, not merely being an enormous asshole.

I think if you look now at our knowledge of all kinds of mental disorders vs. in 1968, it's pretty plain we'll be more compassionate and understanding about mental illnesses.
I think the tell is our enhanced understanding and compassion as a society of developmental disorders. I realize those aren't the same thing -- not even close, but it's hardly a stretch to assume we'll be more enlightened about all kinds of stuff having to do with the brain and how it works. Assuming Trump and his minions don't send all of the scientists to gulags.

Going back to the Tyler Trent story - I am jaded enough to imagine that every single person who gets media coverage has received death threats. It's just what people do these days.
Being an asshole and hiding behind an alias because you are angry that some one is in the media spotlight isn;t a mental illness - it's a sign of a person being human garbage.
Now, this guy could have a mental illness, but I wouldn't assume so just because he made threats.

Looking at my kids, I see an unbelievable shift in how developmental disorders are perceived. Kids who today are diagnosed as having Asperger's or high functioning autistic are accepted by kids today. When we were in school, they were mercilessly picked on for being different, now my kids will talk about other kids with developmental disorders in a matter-of-fact way, and understand that they respond differently to social cues. I was ready to kill a boy at my daughter's birthday party, because he was completely out of control. Before I could yell, my daughter tapped my arm and said, "he has ADHD, he isn't a bad kid, it's just hard for him to sit still for that long." When we were 9, no fucking way. We would have called the kid a spaz, yelled at him for acting weird, and possibly hit him. I was a psych major, and I've read a lot about autism, but I think my kids have a more inherent understanding of autistic kids than I do. They have just been exposed to it more, and informed at such a young age, they just accept it as part of the norm.

So one of our popular promotions that our partners do especially this time of year is a "Cutest Couple" contest where you send in a photo and the TV station or the newspaper votes on the best one yadda yadda yadda. It's pretty dumb and harmless all things considered.
So just got an urgent case from our partner where some dumbfuck who had entered him and his girlfriend in the contest last week actually killed her last night.

Hey, I think that's the same robot my wife's hospital system uses... Of course, they use it to bring onto the field before Jets games, so a kid in the Children's hospital can "be on the field" during warmups and for the coin toss while controlling the robot from his bed. Slightly better use of the technology in my opinion. The best was Jamal Adams getting up in the robots grill hyping up the kid controlling it, and my wife standing next to him, then saying, "I didn't have the heart to tell Jamal the camera wasn't on yet." Then Ray Romano came over and started talking to the kid. After a minute Ray asked the kid if he had any idea who he was, and the kid says no. Ray was super cool and says, "eh, ask your parents, they can tell you." Not a knock on Ray at all, he seems like a completely down to earth, cool guy. He wanted to make a kid with cancer feel special, and had the self awareness to realize the kid had no idea who he was, and the humility to make fun of himself. They also use the robots so kids can be in school from their hospital rooms. When my daughter was in first grade, a girl in her grade was in the hospital for several months with cancer, and she was able to attend school through the robot, and was able to complete the school year.

A minor thing, but when you see an able bodied person park in a handicapped spot and there are open spots all over the place, you should be legally allowed to vandalize the car.

To mansplain it... These are print-to-order items. Basically one of those sites where you upload an image and it costs nothing to just offer it on anything they can print on. The libz looking for yoga mats will totally get owned.
