I don't remember basketball without a 3 point line. According to Google, NBA added the 3 pointers in 1979, so I was 3. It said NCAA "universally implemented" 3 pointers in 1986, but I don't remember not having 3s. I was a Big East guy, not sure when they implemented it
The first NCAA final I watched live was the 1985 one (won't mention further details due to this week's SwampCrash) and I remember no 3 point line there. I never realized that it was up to the conferences to not only have them, but the distance. According to wiki, the ranges for the three-point line before being standardized NCAA-wide in 1986 ranged from 22 feet in the Big Sky to 17 feet, 9 inches in the ACC. Seventeen Nine!

I'm old enough to remember when College b-ball didn't have a shot clock. Oh the joy of watching Phil Ford run the four corners for Dean Smith.

Funny thing. I worked with a guy who was Darrell Griffith's first cousin. When Griffith was in the NBA, he'd give his cousin tickets to any game he played in that he wanted to attend. (Griffith is only a year older than me.)

When I was in college I had sex with a woman who was 32. That’d put her in her 70s, now.

Sad to say, since doc Howard and HDO left, I always win these “I’m so old” things.

Yeah what the hell. So he was mid-40s already when I first knew who he was?

Here's what else I learned in the last 3 minutes...

Tabitha Soren is married to Michael Lewis (which I knew) and their daughter's name is Quinn (which I didn't and I hope it's for the reason it should be). Also, Daisy Fuentes is married to Richard Marx?!? Adam Curry is a 9/11 truther?!?

Adam Curry was just on Rogan. Extremely interesting interview. Guy is super intelligent and interesting. Didn't know he was a 9/11 Truther. He was into some weird conspiracy stuff, but he seemed like he'd be better than that.

I used to listen to Adam Curry's podcast when podcasts were new (think ipods that did not have the flat touch wheel). Based on a quick google this was 2005 when he started Podshow (my company did podcasts back then too and used his Podsafe music for our bumpers) and was married to Patricia Paay. At some point I gave up on his daily podcasts that were very long and now realize he has been married 2 more times. Another way to look at this is I may have found the Swamp around the same time I listened to Adam Curry.

Liked Michael Lewis' writing and perspective. Then I met him in person and came across thinking he was just a prick. Especially when compared to Tom Wolfe and Buster Oleny who I also got to spend time with that weekend.

Kurt Loder is day older than Bob Seger (h/t @dadboner)

(also just noticed that Loder was born and raised at the NJ Shore in the resort town we usually retreat to for a week during the late summer)

If it makes you feel better, I don't get any of the references or know any of the bands/albums they are mentioning. I do have one Deerhunter album because bapo! sent it to me, but I have no frame of reference for how old the album is.

You know what makes feel my age? I was a music hipster in my era, and now, many of the bands I loved are lost to obscurity, except for other old farts like me.

It’ll happen to you, too.

I know what you mean.

My last day thinking that I was a musical hipster came a few years ago when I heard a bunch of cool tunes from high school (the ones that the hosers who loved Foreigner, Styx etc. wouldn't have listened to) playing at the grocery store as I shopped.

One that hit me recently was Matthew Lillard. Learned that he's a big nerd via a YouTube video from Geek and Sundry. So these were my thoughts, in order:

Oh, cool. Matthew Lillard. I remember him from Hackers.

Wait ... When did Hackers come out? Ah, 1995. Damn, that's...25 years ago. He still looks pretty young.

Wait, how old was he in Hackers? ... 25!?

Holy shit, he's 50.

That's 13ish years away for me. Jesus, I'm getting fucking old.

Deerhunter: Halcyon Digest
Beach House: Teen Dream

Both still great albums (and I think picks of mine in the album draft), but sadly released in 2010.

I looked up songs by several bands in that thread, looking at their most popular songs, and nothing sounded familiar. I have Microcastle, and really like it, I just don’t listen to music much, and when I do I don’t have patience to listen to new stuff. If I have iTunes on shuffle, I usually don’t have the patience to listen to a full song without skipping.

The grandparents listening to The Pixies is what got me. I mean, I get that the music is plenty old enough. But the idea that that's the music that someone thinks of as the music grandparents played in the car driving them to school just kills me.

I'm sure I posted it in this thread before, but a guy I played soccer with growing up became a grandfather about a year ago. 42 or 43 yo,
