“Look, we have a tragedy,” the president told pool reporters as he boarded Marine One for the first leg of his trip to survey hurricane damage in Puerto Rico. “We’re gonna do... and what happened in Las Vegas is, in many ways, a miracle. The police department has done such an incredible job.”
Name one way.
The guy's an idiot so I'm not going to defend him but I know what he was trying to say. The first responders on the scene somehow got to this guy's room in 15 minutes literally under fire. Under the best of circumstances (i.e. when you're not being fired upon) it's hard to get to a specific hotel room in Las Vegas that quickly and they didn't know exactly what room he was in immediately or what would be waiting for them when they did get there. The doctors and nurses at Las Vegas' Level One trauma centers train for terrorist/multiple casualty events and they undoubtedly saved lives as well. This one guy with these weapons could have easily killed dozens more people if the response hadn't happened so quickly.
I mean ... in the same way 9-11 was a miracle because the planes didn't hit 20 floors lower?

Yeah, pretty awesome how quickly they were able to react. I'm sure there's a healthy contingent of police ont he strip at any given moment, but it was still beyond impressive. Was it here I read they were able to pinpoint the room because the smoke alarm went off?
Haven't seen that reported, but it's possible. If so, that was a lucky break for sure. Also not sure if anyone else staying on that floor was able to get through to the dispatchers/police/911 and help ID a floor at least. Looking from the outside at a specific room even with the window broken, it would be a guessing game for police to try and pinpoint a specific floor. "Guessing" the wrong floor would have cost more lives. I have no idea how they got there as fast as they did.

As a dude who went to Haiti the Sunday after an 8.8 earthquake hit, this line of thinking is bullshit, btw.
4 of the 5 major seaports in Port au Prince couldn't handle incoming ships. The runway at Toussaint Louverture airport was short and dilapidated, but could land an aircraft every 15 minutes by a Combat Controller on dirtbike day and night.
We have what's called a Contingency Response Group in the Air Force. I worked for one in Germany, but the one tasked to deploy to Haiti was out of New Jersey. They were on ground within 48 hours. Spec Ops from Hurlburt Field, Florida were there the night of. We had operations running, I believe, within 12 hours.
And we had so many people on that island that we eventually had daily volunteer efforts to help clear the dead in the collapsed Hotel Montana. Bring vapo-rub for your upper lip.
That was just our end of it. The Navy, Marines, and Army had a huge presence as well. Along with the umpteen other nations involved. Operation Unified Response. Shit was crazy.
Great info. I dug a bit more after reading this cause we can't believe anything coming out of the Trump administration.
I have to honest, these days I try to not listen to him actually speak. Listening to a clip like that one, he's just... Like always in roast master mode or something?
Yeah, I mean, at least 59 people probably would disagree with the miracle theory.

“I hate to tell you, Puerto Rico, but you’ve thrown our budget a little out of whack,” Trump said, after introducing White House budget director Mick Mulvaney. “Because we’ve spent a lot of money on Puerto Rico. And that’s fine. We’ve saved a lot of lives.”
He then went on to lament the “hundreds and hundreds and hundreds” of people killed in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina, before asking a Puerto Rican official, “what’s your death count?”

Been doing this for like a year and a half now, to the point where actually hearing his voice is a bit jarring.

At the end of the day that's not going to help her case any. They helped to finally shame him into going to Puerto Rico and escalating the response/relief efforts some. No need to grandstand or be a dick.

Of course he will. My guess, he will claim to be a victim because he is a Las Vegan because he owns a tremendous hotel, it's really unbelievable how amazing it is. Many people say it is the best hotel on the strip.
