Pretty sure the best way to honor your warpet is to eat it on Rimworld.

That was my logic, at least.

No point in selling them to someone who's just going to eat them anyway.

Alright, the final stretch...

Image
We continue to scrap together resources to complete the final components of our ship. Just a couple days away now.

Image
Uh-oh, a complication. An alien vessel lands and begins emanating a psychic drone that will slowly grow stronger over time, driving our colonists insane. We can try to destroy it, but it will release several of the huge mechanoids in a battle that would likely kill at least a few colonists. We'll see if we can tough it out and hope our ship is ready soon, so we don't have to risk the fight before we go nuts.

After being rejected the first time, brian again proposes marriage to his girlfriend Gull and she accepts! The wedding will have to take place following the launch, though.

Image
Our ship nears completion but the psychic drone begins to take a minor toll. Several colonists take mood hits and one, Violet, DSafe's sister who had joined the colony, has a mental break and wanders in a daze before passing out. Keeping her in the colony would require imprisoning and re-recruiting her, costing days we can't afford, so we haul her to a prison bed and allow her to release herself at her own recognizance. Bye Violet, good luck!

Image
Abiding by the results of the poll, the colony sends itself off by slaughtering its faithful pets, Blimp the bear and Satsuki the wolf, for a final meal. Chedda takes it upon himself to do the honors on Blimp, taking a mood hit. Here is chedda re-enacting a scene from The Revenant.

Image
There. Happy?

bfj manages to churn out a few final sculptures before departure. Unfortunately, these will have to be left behind for lucky future explorers to discover:
-two separate sculptures of squirrels on fire
-multiple memorial depictions of Shirley
-chedda vomiting on the ground

Image
Bellies full of bear and wolf, the colonists assemble at the launch site, take a final look around, and climb into the crude but (hopefully) functional ship. The launch sequence is initiated, and...it works!

VICTORY!

Image

Swampville V listed 210 days, or 3.5 years in RimWorld time, before successfully launching off to their next adventure. Congratulations!

Oh. My. G-d. I played rass's video, and I thought, 'Oh, The Antlers. I haven't heard this song in years.' And then I got to that line, and I thought, 'rass, you clever son of a bitch, you've done it again.'

So, I guess the guys won, but I still feel a little sad. I mean, they're asleep and hurtling thru space with an unknown fate. Is chedda really any better off than, say, Ted Williams now?

Mr. Carwash, thank you again for this thread. It's been a joy to read.

So based on the last picture you post it makes it seem like the game will randomly restart in a new environment with the same cast of characters coming out of deep sleep.

rass's video is awesome, btw.

Thanks everyone for your participation and feedback on this, it really made it worthwhile for me to put together as I hope it was for you to follow. I think I'm going to put RimWorld aside for a while, as we've basically exhausted the range of things that could happen over the course of these five sessions, and my capacity for creative narrative is pretty frayed at this point. I might come back to it some point down the line, when future updates add more features and more crazy shit that can happen.

I've been kicking around another idea involving another game, which I might see about putting up here pretty soon.

Great stuff, Wash. The fact that I was fully engaged whether I was in the World or not is a pretty strong testament to the quality of the exercise.

Looking forward to whatever you throw out next.

I think there's one big flaw here. If you have the technology to create a spaceship, why not just use your smarts instead to create a civilization on the planet rather than blast off back into the galactic roulette wheel? Is random Planet X really going to be better (+ the risk of space travel)?

Game has been updated quite a bit since we last did this, with a number of new features. A bunch of mods too that can add some interesting things to mix it up...

Will put some things together this weekend and maybe post a few "teasers" next week.

So a question: Do you want to keep your same personas from last time, or do you want to "re-roll" and get new attributes?

Guessing that BFJ is a hard "yes" on being the pot-smoking Rodin of vomit again, but other input is appreciated...
