Yeah, later era Roxy Music/Brian Ferry was great with a woman.

Maybe for a one-nighter. You knew you had a keeper if she was into Yes.

Maybe this says more about the women I targeted in college than anything but I seemed to do pretty well with The Smiths.

Oh yeah - "Avalon" is the best - and that was a university (and high school) pick for me.

Sad to think that the sexy time music of my youth is now played on oldies channels.

Pearl Jam is considered classic rock now. According to the local radio station.

Scary moment recently - in terms of time passed, I realized that the equivalent to me playing Talking Heads in the car and telling my kids how good it is would be my father playing Benny Goodman to me in the car when I was a teenager.

Which he did.

Roxy Music was an amazing band. Brian Eno is a freaking musical genius. Love me some Ferry, but Eno lost out on the direction.

Avalon saved Roxy Music's legacy post Eno, IMO...

Disagree. While "Avalon" is brilliant, Manifesto was okay, and Flesh and Blood was really good.

But Eno is a freaking genius. He;s released a lot of ambient stuff that is meh-tastic, but even if you only consider his work as a producer, the guy is amazing.

Speaking of fucking and what not, I really got into DMB because of ecstasy. I had taken some earlier at a party in Austin and this chick a good friend of mine had a crush on was driving us back to school 30 miles south. I'm in the front seat and cannot keep my eyes off this girl and wanted nothing more than to gently caress her silky hair, beautiful skin and perfect breasts, but had a moment of clarity where I remembered it was my buddy's crush and, oh yeah, I had my long-time girlfriend waiting for me in San Marcos. So, I focused all that energy on what was coming out of the CD player and it was DMB. I think it was Two Step and from then on, I've been hooked.

It would've saved me a lot of time and money had I just fucked her.

I should've made it more clear: by saying Eno lost out on the direction, I was implying that Eno grew frustrated with where Roxy Music was headed (it became more about Ferry than anything else). Bandmates agreed, and went along for the ride. Eno's the musical genius for all the artistic reasons; Ferry just has that silky/throaty voice people want to hear as the party's winding down.

Yes and no...

The first three albums without Eno are outstanding as well.

Thing with Eno is that he went on his own and his creativity exploded. And when he got his hands on Talking Heads, he pushed them to heights that - in my mind - were unprecedented in the history of rock music.

More Songs About Buildings and Food and Remain In Light are masterworks, and Fear Of Music is not far behind.

Even recently, he produced a fantastic album by Seun Kuti.

Fair enough: point being that Roxy Music would've been made a deeper imprint had Eno stayed with them.

You know who was probably the perfect amalgam of Arno and Ferry? Mark Hollis.

Can you guys take a break from reminiscing about all your fingering conquests to explain to me how Tupac is in before LL Cool J? Even acknowledging he had a corny phase, that's insane.

Unpopular opinion - Brian Eno was overrated as an artist (but a great producer).

When I remember Brian Eno I just think of boring ambient music.

Tupac was shot, so that means he was probably amazing and thug as shit. And LL had I Need Love. That is not hard.

No. Pac is Reggie Lewis at best. From a music output, Tupac isn't a first-ballot for the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame, yet alone Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
