Yes. I think it's the last tournament on the calendar, and the winner gets a $10m annuity, but I don't watch much anymore and I might be mixing up a few things.

The 10 million goes to the fedex cup champ, which is guy who got most points in the 4 playoff events. That was justin rose this year. Tiger won the last tournament, and sure, not a big field, but a really really good field.

Plus to get to the end you have to be pretty consistent for a few huge tournaments, right? Which, if you pictured a possible Tiger comeback as a fluke good week at some point, is way impressive

Anyone see what they are doing to the tournament next year?

The leader of the FedEx point will start at -10, the second place guy will start at -8 and so on. So that whoever wins the tournament will automatically win the Fed Ex Cup too.

The current format does a pretty good job of getting you the 30 most in-form players in the world, excluding a few Euros who don't play enough Tour events.

If it's a one-car rollover accident in LA at 7 in the morning, "reckless driving" is about the best-case scenario, right?

Hate to speculate, but Tiger's own people (agents, management) not getting out in front of the release of the information probably doesn't bode really well for his general condition or the circumstances around the accident. I hope he's OK and it's a relatively garden variety accident, but if the accident happened at 10:30 ET and nothing was released about it until TMZ/LA County Sheriff three hours later...that's a red flag.

Anyone ever fallen asleep at the wheel? I don’t mean started to and snapped back, I mean out cold behind the wheel (not intoxicated). Happened to me once and scared the shit out of me. One minute I was driving into a neighborhood to deliver a vehicle, the next minute I had hopped a curb and was headed towards a tree. Stopped the truck. Looked to make sure I hadn’t flattened anyone and drove off the curb, parked and caught my breath. Delivered the vehicle and got back in my truck to go home and was terrified to drive the 90 minutes back to Baltimore. If someone had been out walking their dog, I’d have killed them. It took me a while to get my shit together and drive home. Really freaked me out. It wasn’t late at night, I had slept well the night before, I wasn’t shit faced, just passed out while driving.

Hasn’t happened since, but it has stuck with me for years. I’m not saying this is what happened to Tiger, but it made me think of that evening.

When my youngest kid was little, and didn't sleep at night (meaning I didn't sleep at night), I fell asleep at a stop light. Like out...sound asleep. I woke up when the light changed and the car behind me honked at me.

Freaked me out.

Oh yea. I used to have to be into the clinic at 430 and it was a 45 minute drive. I'm pretty sure I nodded off at least a dozen times that year. Terrifying when I think about it.

Headed home for winter break once. Was driving a friends car because she had her parent's car that needed to be returned to them from their Lexington Apartment. On the interstate merging onto a different road. The singing shoulder woke me up. This was in the days of the bag phone in the car. She called me from ahead and I tried to come up with an excuse but ended up with "I dozed off". It shook me up.

My buddy wanted me to have a "real" bachelor party, so he drove us to AC for a night of debauchery. He was somehow convinced we'd get comped a room, because reasons.

We didn't get a room and after trying to sober up with coffee and food, we drove back (about a 2.5 hour drive.)

I was behind the wheel in the middle of Jersey and definitely nodded off for a few seconds. Scared the shit out of me. We pulled over and slept for 45 minutes or so, got back up and finished the drive.

Scary shit.

I'm ashamed I have a very awful story of leaving a casino in Shreveport at 6:30am after being there two hours before being kicked out along with a buddy of mine for him being too intoxicated. We had driven from Houston leaving at midnight. I remember thinking I was going to immediately be pulled over for DUI as I left the casino and I remember being relieved that no one seemed to follow me out of parking lot. Next thing I remember it's 3:00pm and I wake up in a rest area halfway between there and Dallas (we were headed there for a golf tournament). Worst part is I was in the passenger seat and my friend was in driver's seat with zero recollection of switching. Second worst part was the hangover. Third worst was the $300 in chips in my friend's pocket that forced us to backtrack to Shreveport with said hangovers.

I figured this would be a good week to read Hank Haney's book, 'The Big Miss' (2012), about his time as Woods' swing coach from 2004-2010.

Have any of you golf guys read it? There's a lot of technical stuff in here that you might find interesting. (I can vaguely visualize some of his concepts, but they don't really mean anything to me.) But the personal details about Woods are fun.

It reminds me of Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian's 2018 bio of Woods. (Highly recommended. One of the most readable sports bios I've ever read.) Makes me think a lot less of him as a human being, but I have an even greater appreciation of him as an athlete now.

All of the Navy SEAL and heavy-weightlifting stuff is detailed in Haney's book. I'm surprised this didn't cause more of a stir when it was published. I never heard about it until Wright Thompson's article in 2016.

Here's the most relevant paragraph for this week:
I never sensed that Tiger wanted to be treated like a king. He never had a big entourage. He never bragged about what he’d won or how much money he had. Tiger didn’t big-time. The most entitled I ever saw him act was when he drove around Orlando. It wasn’t that he favored fast cars. He owned a McLaren and a Porsche that were basically race cars, but they stayed in the garage from what I could tell. Mostly he just drove his Escalade, but in a way that reflected an impatient guy who wasn’t going to follow the silly rules of regular schlubs. He’d go over the speed limit, but not by a lot. Mostly it was rolling stops, turns over double lines, parking in a restricted spot—time-saving stuff he thought was worth the risk. When I was in the passenger seat, sometimes I’d say “Nice” after one of his illegal moves. That would draw a smile from Tiger as he enjoyed the rare feeling of breaking rules. But I never saw him get a ticket or even get pulled over.
